Home‐Based Program Highlights:
o Grades K‐8o All subjects are taught by credentialed, CVUSD teacherso Option for students who are actively working, have an
internship or are engaged in professional training; students with medical challenges; students social/emotional challenges
o Parents may request this program of choiceo *Concurrent enrollment is an option for 7th and 8th grade
students if the course is not already offered at the AEC; majority of coursework must be done with AEC in order to be a student in Home‐Based
o Combination of instructional tools:o Use of online platforms – textbooks, exams, lessons,
videos 100% embedded into the online platformo Use of work packets and textbooks, apportioned out
week‐by‐weeko Student progress and trimester grades appear on Aeries just as
it would with the traditional school site, following the same timeline.
o Students are assigned to a Homeroom Teacher who monitors progress and maintains communication with parents/guardians
Virtual• Program Highlights:
o Grades 9‐12o CP, Honors, AP courseso Students take up to 6 classes just as they would during a traditional
school dayo All subjects are taught by credentialed, content‐area, CVUSD teacherso Recommended option for student athletes (NCAA approved)o Option for students who are behind in credits and/or have a low GPA;
students who need to assist with family support; students who are actively working, have an internship or are engaged in professional training; students with medical challenges; students with social/emotional challenges
o Parents may request this program of choiceo Some students may graduate early with a written contract in place
(prior site administrator approval needed)o *Concurrent enrollment is an option – maximum of 2 CVUSD courses on
high school campus if the course is not already offered at the AEC; majority of coursework must be done with AEC in order to be a student in Virtual
o Use of online platforms – textbooks, exams, lessons, videos 100% embedded into the online platform
o Student progress and semester grades appear on Aeries just as it would with the traditional school site, following the same timeline.
o *Real‐time updates are accessible within the online platform gradebook.

Independent Study
Program Highlights:o Grades 10‐12 o CP courses onlyo Students take one class at a time – minimum of 2 weeks/maximum
of 4 weeks to complete a single course. o All subjects are taught by credentialed, content‐area, CVUSD
teacherso Option for students who are behind in credits and/or have a low
GPA; students who need to assist with family support; students who are actively working, have an internship or are engaged in professional training; students with medical challenges; students with social/emotional challenges
o Parents may request this program of choiceo Some students may graduate early with a written contract in place

How Do I Enroll My Student?
Submit a completed application by e‐mail or a hardcopy in person at the AEC drop box located outside of the Counseling Office (room 10)

You and Your Student Attend the Counseling Office Registration Meeting
• After the AEC receives your completed application you will be assigned to an AEC Counseling Assistant to invite families your student’s onlineregistration appointment:
• NEW students• Tuesday, August 4th, 2020 at 8:30 AM or
5:30 PM• RETURNING students
• Wednesday, August 5th, 2020 at 8:30 AM or 5:30 PM
• LATE student registration• Monday, August 10th, 2020 at 9:30 AM

The Academic Plan• All students will then be assigned to an AEC Counselor.
• A formal academic plan will be created for Virtual and Independent Study students.
• Student schedules will be based upon the courses selected during spring registration at their home school sites, meeting grade level standards/benchmarks and credits needed for your student to meet high school graduation requirements
• Parent/guardian and student will need to review/sign this plan.

Homeroom Teacher• Finally, your student will be assigned an AEC Homeroom Teacher and begin classes. Students must
be present for the teacher online meeting.

VERY IMPORTANT:The Registration Packet
• If you have already submitted an application to the AEC, you will receive a registration packet by e‐mail at the address indicated on your form.
• Submit your completed registration packet by e‐mail or a hardcopy in person at the AEC drop box located outside of the Counseling Office (room 10)

• This packet is required before your student may begin coursework.
• RETURN BY WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2020
• NOTE: This packet must be renewed each school year the student is in an AEC program in order to continue.

Home‐Based, Virtual, Independent Study Student Schedule• Day 1: August 10th – All AEC teachers will be holding orientation for all NEW and RETURNING students via Google Meet.
o Students must be present on the first day of school.o The Google code will be e‐mailed to parents/guardians and students prior to August 10th.
• Throughout the semester, students are required to meet with their teachers at least once a week –meetings will be at least 30 to 60 minutes in duration.
o Students who need additional time are welcome to meet with their teachers more than once a week. The once a week standard is a minimum requirement.
• The following will be in place for all students:o Instructional time (coursecontenthelp‐ weekly, live,directteacherinstruction)o Homeroom time (weekly,synchronous,standinggroupappointment)o Office Hours (standardblockoftimebutappointmentsarescheduledtoensureprivacy;meetingsareone‐to‐one;student,parentand/orteacherinitiated)
• The schedule of hours will be set by each department and communicated to parents/guardians and students by the Homeroom Teacher.

Stay In The Know• Updates will be posted on the AEC website, AEC Facebook page and AEC Instagram account.
• Students must check their DISTRICT (not personal!) email regularly.
• Parents/guardians, please check your email also.
• Parents/guardians and students who need assistance with Aeries, accessing their District email, or updating contact information in Aeries contact
