Let the wicked man abandon his way, the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn back to the Lord who will take pity on him, to our God who is rich in forgiving; for my thoughts are not your thoughts, my ways not your ways - it is the Lord who speaks. Yes, the heavens are as high above earth as my ways are above your ways, my thoughts above your thoughts. Responsorial Psalm: Ps 144:2-3. 8-9. 17-18 R. The Lord is near to all who call him. Second Reading: Philippians 1:20-24. 27 Christ will be glorified in my body, whether by my life or by my death. Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would bring me something more; but then again, if living in this body means doing work which is having good results - I do not know what I should choose. I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and be with Christ, which would be very much the better, but for me to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need for your sake. Avoid anything in your everyday lives that would be unworthy of the gospel of Christ. Gospel Acclamation: cf Acts 16:14 Alleluia, alleluia! Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son. Alleluia! Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16 Jesus told his disciples this parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o'clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.' So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o'clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o'clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?' They answered, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard.' When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.' When those who had started about five o'clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, 'These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day's burden and the heat.' He said to one of them in reply, 'My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?' Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last." 25th SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME Year A 24th September 2017

Catholic Church Child Protection Sunday

10 September 2017 “See Me, Hear Me”

As has become the custom each year the Child Protection Sunday and preceding week, provides a focus reminding each of us to play a part in protecting our children. This year our theme is “See Me, Hear Me”. The question is how do we play our part in listening to children to ensure they are kept safe?

Safeguarding Education - Raising Awareness #2: Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults is a practical living out of the baptismal vocation of every member of the Church to ensure the safety and well-being of those whom the Lord sets before us as those to whom the ‘Kingdom of God belongs’ (Mt 19:14)

Gospel Reflection

from God’s Word 2017 Daily Reflections

The landlord in today’s parable first comes across as an apparently unjust and arrogant person. But a closer reading of the story reveals the opposite. He is just and generous, sensitive and understanding to the plight of the poor, and willing to disburse his earnings to the needy. Jesus wants to teach us that our heavenly Father is just as generous, with a preferential option for the poor and less privileged ones. He is willing to call even the last and the least and shower them generously with his bountiful gifts. What is my understanding of the heavenly Father? How generous am I towards the poor and less privileged of society?

URGENTLY need helpers to do the flower in St Cecilia’s Church. We have only 3 ladies at present and we need help because of problems with our arms. Please phone Irene 4393 6033 evenings best.
