Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield

May 5-8, 2012

The 2012 biennial Liturgical Arts Festival will begin Saturday, May 5, at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. with a Textiles and Banners Workshop and continues on May 5 with the Gallery Opening and Reception from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Springfield Art Association, 700 North Fourth Street. The Festival will continue through May 8 with the last event at 7:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Sanctuary. All of the liturgical events are free to the public. Mark your Calendars for “Evanwalk” – Sunday, May 20: Please join us as we walk, celebrate and remember Evan Hoffman. In June 2010, Evan passed away at the age of 13 after a two-year battle with cancer. This family-friendly event is being held at Erin’s Pavilion at Southwind Park in Springfield starting at 12:30 p.m. on May 20, with all proceeds benefiting the Evan Hoffman Children’s Fund for St. John’s Children’s Hospital. Chicken Dinner: The Knights of Columbus #4175 North Council and the Ursuline Academy Alumni Foundation will host their 39th Annual Chicken Dinner Sunday, May 6, 11 a.m. To 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for Children. Eat in, take out and drive-through are available. Adult dinners will include a 1/2 a chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cole slaw, a roll and a dessert. These are the same recipes people have come to love over the years. Tickets are available from members of both the Council and the Foundation and area merchants.

Silver Cross Voice Recital: Ellen Curry, St. Agnes School alumni and daughter of parishioners David and Gina Curry, will present her Silver Cross Recital in Voice on Saturday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart-Griffin’s Dominican Hall. Ellen, a senior at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and voice student of Karen Danner, has been involved in community theatre productions, SHG musicals and is a member of the National Honor Society. Her recital will include Gluck’s “O del mio dolce ardor,” Franck’s “Panis Angelicus,” and Niles’ “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair”. The recital is free and open to the public.

A Big “Thank You!” for your generous support of “M & M’s for Money & Missions” and the Bake Sale. SHG students attend the JOSHUA mission trip to upper Appalachia June 3-8. You may still contribute by returning any M & M tubes to the parish office or to SHG.

PLEASE PRAY FOR… We ask you to remember in special prayers the women and men of our military services who are in places of conflict around the world. Pray for peace, and pray for the safe return of all of our armed services personnel and other workers, including St. Agnes parishioners and family members who are overseas: Aysha Jean Meyers, Frank Bart, and Nathan Bubonic. If you have a relative or friend in the military serving overseas, please let us know at the Church office, 793-1330. The KC 4175 Ladies Auxiliary is planning a bus trip to see the Lion King at the Fox Theatre in St Louis on August 25th for the 2:00 PM show. The cost is $105.00 per person. GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION! This Sunday, April 29, marks the Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession of Sr. Francis Mary Philipp, O.P. She, along with her jubilee classmates, will have a special celebration at the Dominican Motherhouse today. As St. Agnes Parish, we wish to honor Sister Francis Mary during the 4:30 p.m. Mass next Saturday, May 5, followed by a reception in the parish hall to which all are invited. Let us gather to give thanks to God for Sister’s generous witness of faith here at St. Agnes these past 23 years, and within her Dominican community for 50 years!

This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it! Alleluia!

St. John’s Hospital Third Age Living is a Senior Citizen adult ministry which promotes health education and community volunteer services for local seniors. Youth Minister Opening: St. Mary’s Parish in Paris, IL, is accepting application for youth minister, a full-time position. The youth minister will create, direct and maintain a program for junior and senior high school students and parents. This person will work with the parish pastoral team and adult volunteers.
