We got our start in Switzerland. It’s here, in the land of milk and trains, we learned to craft our small group tours with personal attention and custom itineraries. Every summer, Alpinehikers’ owner Troy Haines and his family move to the heart of Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland region, to guide tours, manage self-guided tour reservations, foster friendships, and mix business with pleasure in authentic Alpine style...

Matt....We had a wonderful time with you in Switzerland. Loved the whole experience. Cinque Terre was a bit of a letdown after the Alps. Crowded, part of the trails were washed out and it was quite warm. I concluded that for our family the high country is where we like to be. Regarding next year Connie and I are very interested in the Hermit Trail option in the Grand Canyon as well as part of the John Muir Trail. Also, we would consider Europe again if you could construct a trip that was as good as the Bernese Oberland and didn’t duplicate any of the towns we’ve been to already. The Zermatt area or Mt Blanc or the Tyrol? Great trip and great memories. Looking forward to sharing a glass of wine at J K Carriere. Stay in touch.

Self-Guided tours are a great choice for anyone wanting the ultimate in flexibility, privacy, or a more budget-conscious tour.

You will receive a personal information packet complete with daily itineraries, detailed route descriptions, topographic maps of your hikes, train schedules, and specialized information about the regions you’ll be visiting. Most tours include rail passes and luggage transfers.

We describe each of your destinations in depth, noting activities and sights of particular interest, and providing you with

choices for rainy days or taking a rest. This is your personal guidebook, so we also help you with what to pack, how to get in shape for walking in the Alps, how to phone home, and what to do if your plans change en route.

You’ll also get a copy of the confirmation emails from each of your hotels, noting where we’ve carefully communicated your specific dietary and room requirements.

Self-guided tour itineraries can be easily customized to meet your specific needs. Choose any day to start – this is your tour!

And we give you our Swiss cell phone number – so you can call us locally June through September.

Troy,

I wanted to drop you a line and tell you that we are spending the last night of our vacation sitting on our balcony at the Hotel des Alpes in Lucern having wine. The trip that you arranged for us could not have been better. The hotel in Murren was great as was the hiking. The hotel in Zermatt was incredible and the meals in both were 1st rate. In Zermatt we hiked to Trift and had lunch. The next day we hiked to Hornli Hut. What an experience. The entire trip has gone off without a hitch, thanks to your planning. My wife and I agree that engaging in strenuous hikes during the day and then being pampered at night makes for a great vacation. Thanks to you this has been the best vacation we have ever taken.

When you call Alpinehikers, you’ll get specific answers to your questions and lots of help making the most of your choices.

You’re curious what to take in your daypack (that’s easy), if your teenager is going to go hungry eating tiny dinners of haute cuisine (they won’t, portions are generous), or if you’re going to be able to ‘keep up’ on hikes (your pace, remember).

You’ll speak with one of us directly – and your details matter to us. Let’s talk – call or send us an email.

We’re here. Well, some of us are... The rest of us are in the Alps!
