They lived there for two years trying to decide where to build.
"We kept returning to Alpine" she says "so we knew this was the place to settle permanently and have lived in this lovely spot since July last year."
HOW ABOUT IT, DRAMA LOVERS? Oldtimers will recollect that 19
years ago, on May 19, 1950, the Alpine Community Players were organized, put on several plays at the Woman's Club, before the school auditorium was built. Bea Laforce was one enthused organizer with Clarke & Alice Irvine, and others. How about a revival?

EDITORIAL Ql CURRENT EVENTS REVEAL BRIGHT FUTURE HERE.
Editor's Note- Browsing through the 18 year file of the Sun we came upon the below editorial from the 37- page issue of July 27, 1962. It revived some interesting memories. We reprint it here for the enlightenment of some 2000 new residents since that year. After you read it you can add in your mind the beautiful new Vista Alpine Mobile Ho me Estates which replaced the defunct Dinosaur Park. Also the fine new Alpine Village Apartments and Kellogg's Alpine Apartments, plus many, many fine new homes and several new businesses, We still believe that Alpine has a bright and wonderful future. -er.

This is perhaps the most important week in the history of Alpine! Six major events are culminating or are about to. Some are new and some are old, but they are surely shaping the future. First and most important, water is being turned on. This follows years of promotion, work, voting and spending. The project was first activated by the Sun oack in 1952. Next the interstate freeway is nearing realization, as told in this issue. Its completion will mark a trend in the town, with Tavern Road's extension and interchange. Of inestimable value to the future is orderly zoning which j\,fst got underway witli the first advisory committee meeting. This is a project of the Sun. See story and photo. Fourth is the bank. Security First National being in process of ne$otiation for a site to build. Likewise this was a pet project of the Sun since its inception. Fifth, Auren Pierce's high class subdivision, Palo Verde Ranch, is making a record for sales with its current opening. This means that more fine homes and more fine people will live here, a precursor of others in different parts of the community. Sixth, Dinosaur Land is orening, which will bring thousands o fun seekers, and give employment to a staff of operators, a high class amusement that presages others in the future. When your editor attended the grand opening of Del Webb's· Ocean House on Mission Bay, he met the dynamic dreamer, mvited him to look into Alpine as the site for hotel, resort or sanitarium. He promised to do so. And a letter from the Sun has gone to Gene Autry, old friend of movie days in Hollywood, who, it is said, has been eying Poway and the SD area to install a million dollar amusement park. Yep, Alpine has a bright and promising futureJ -CI

WIND FLIPS HUGE TRAILER Although they now call those big houses on wheels mobilhomes, the word trailer will perhaps stickfor years to come. Anyhow, the high wind last week flipped onto its side this monster Skyline 12 x 60-footer weighing 12, 000 pounds! The owner, Ed Nightengale ..,.,...,.._-.;...- really suffered in the gale which liit broadside! Here he stands · at the front with two sons, Allen, 18 at left, and Slade, 17, who was only occupant at flipover, had to climb up and out little window.
CARL ROSE HOSTS 4H CLUB Robert Nelson, Alpine Amigos forestry leader, took 8 members of the club to Pine Acres Tree Nursery where Carl Rose, owner. showed them all how to propagate plants from cuttings. He also gave a talk on seeds and seedlings and how to make a seed bed, also how to propagate iceplant. His assistant showed tlie young people_ ho".'. to ball and burlaf> a tree and not injure the roots. Then Rose gave each a 2' Scotch pine and said "anytime you need help, I will be glad to assist", Alpine needs a bakery!

Wayne and Jerry Brown are elated over the delivery of their new Miley trailer, custom- made in Sacramento for them. They put it to use Saturday for the first time when they picked up their registered quarter mare at Dick DeMatteis Training Stables on Alpine Heights Road. The horse, Country Brook, is out of Country Boy Lauro and Camelot Mist, has been at Dick's getting finished out since A u&ust. Jerry liasn 't decided who she 1s going to breed the horse to, but has several famous prospects to choose from. They brought their appaloosa mare Palmer Cheyenne home last month, as Dick had completed her training, now have 13 horses on their ranch. The only horse Dick still has belong-E l Cajon Awning

Robin Branton is selling her nice, gentle bay mare together with her welch- shetland and year old filly for only $ 225, which is a mighty good bargain and would make a wonderful Christmas package for a family with young horse enthusiasts. Also you can get a package deal fencing kit at Carrell 's Hay and Grain, to corral them in and for only $49. 95, so prospective buyers, think it over and call Robin at 445- 2475 or Carrells at 445-4436. She wants to sell the horses together because she has had them for 5 years and it wouldn't be fair to separate them now. Maureen Carrell , horse leader for Alpine 4H members, arranged an interestingfrogram last meeting. John Landon o MerckCo. producers of Top Form Horsecare Products, came out with his complete line, gave a movi on showmanship and then gave his samples to holders of lucky numbers. Horse enthusiasts from the Japatul Club there and all enjoyed a highly interesting evening. "Elizabeth Belanich was the hero of the day" says Mrs. Blanche McCall, "as she kept her cool, rant the bell, alerted us to call the fire station" . Only slight damage was done. Three trucks and 12 volunteers responded.

Helping Mike, seated before the huge well decorate_d cae, from left: Diane Steele, Mane Wmner, Mrs. Jenney, and Frank Scully, forman of the ranch who arranged the tables, barbecue and equipment for entertaming the 27 young people.

INCOME TAX CHANGES EXPLAINED Henry Block, head of H & R Block,
America's largest tax service which does 5 , 300, 000 returns annually, has prepared some highlights on the upcoming year's return which everyone earning $1000 of taxable income as a single, or $2000 for a couple, and for the head of a household, 1500, which do not draw the lOo/o surtax.
This big firm has an office here run by Pat Naud at 2140 Alpine Blvd. , where she is readying everything for the tax season, Jan. 1 to Apr. -15.
Block says that about 22 million who have been using the card, or short form, will be surprised, even dismayed, to learn that the 1040 will be us ed by all this year.
Taxpayers with incomes of less than $5, 000, who do not itemize their tax from line 15 of the table, will enter that tax on line 16, compute the surcharge on line 17, then enter the total on line 18.
However, they may find the extra work a blessing in that some tax may be saved, as it is believed that many have been really cheating themselves by overpaying the tax. The lOo/o will be continued for six months following Dec. 31, 1969,
But the best idea is to drop in and see Pat Naud at the local Block office ; she has all the latest info on this tender subject!

20 JOE ERRICA ENJOYS RETIREMENT Retiring in Jan. 1969 after many years as contractor to construction firms, Joe Errica is taking it easy, aiding his son Chas. in an acfvisory position for the firm which has a fleet of water tankers that are used in building freeways and other construction jobs. They sprinkle the water on soil which must be compressed so as to be solid. Errica and his wife bought a travel trailer, go from their nice home in the Highlands, to various vacation spots. They have lived here two years last July, are quite fond of Alpine, its climate and its nice people. They came up from Chula Vista. POWER OUTAGES FIXED FAST In the high wind Wednesday last week a crossarm broke on a SDG&E pole putting everything on the out at 5:45 a . m. in the Willows. Jerry Reeser, a troubleman out of EC with a crew worked till midmorning getting the power restored. F or awhile it looked like the Sun would not be rolling on the press, but fortunately they got the outage in again. !

IS AMERICA FORGETTING THANKS? The most famous Thanksgiving in history• celebrated over 300 years ago was in 1621 at Plymouth Colony when Gov. Bradford decreed a day "for being thankful and stowing gratitude to Almighty God for the bounties received in this land of hardship and struggle. " Only half of the Pilgrims liad lived through the first fierce winter. This band of 55 survivors was joined by 90 friendly Indians. The celebration lasted for three days included athletic contests in addition to feasting. Perhaps A merica should observe Thursday with contemplation of its present situation as to war, the economy and its future? However Thanksgiving has been the theme of celebrations for thousands of years, even in ancient China and other areas, based mainly on harvest thanks. ECONOMY BOUNCES BACK WELL Luther J . Mohr, manager of Security Pacific National Bank's local branch says economic activity rebounded sharply during Oct. Department store sales, after adjustments for seasonal fluctuations, rose from 184. 0 in Sept. to ID 9. 0 in Oct, Declines Mohr said were noted in construction' and realty 'sales. In the 1st half of 1969, for the first time in any Jan. -June period, total taxable sales in SD County reached and exceeded the $ 1 billion mark for a 14. 9"/o jump over the same period of 1968.
