From the Foundation

1

“I learned the value of living and leading with integrity. I gained an understanding that one does not need to hold a title to lead, but by Living with Purpose one can lead by example and gain followers in unexpected places and ways. Being a leader is not just a definition; it is a lifestyle.” Hillary Herr, Gamma Eta, LeaderShape Scholarship Recipient

One Alumnae’s Experience Thanks to Your Gracious Giving

2

After attending the LeaderShape Institute, a week-long educational experience designed to give young adults the means to become extraordinary leaders, Hillary is a different person and a better leader. The experience equipped her with the knowledge to change the world by

3

working toward a vision that is grounded in her deepest values; a skill Hillary will use for the rest of her life.

Thanks to donations made by chapters, clubs and alumnae to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, Hillary was just one of the

4

sisters provided the opportunity to attend LeaderShape. Her transformational experience not only impacts her life but the communities in which she will serve, and she

5

will always have Alpha Gamma Delta to credit for her leadership success.

Living with Purpose… “it’s a lifestyle”

LAAAC’s Marijayne Stegmen writes:

The colonizations of Delta Alpha, Delta Epsilon, and Delta Eta chapters this fall is quickly approaching.

Many of you have asked what the process will be and what role the alumnae will play in the process. First some terminology…the process that we all knew as Rush is now called Recruitment.

Women going through the recruitment process are known as Potential New Members and instead of being referred to as pledges, our new sisters are

2

referred to as New Members. Now let’s review the colonization process.

During the Spring 2013 term, members of the Alpha Gamma Delta Extension team visited the campuses to begin to get a feel for the universities and how they work. Each of the three campuses is very different so there was much to learn about the campus, the Greek system, and the student populations.

The team met with campus leaders and asked them what it is like to be a student at their university and

3

specifically, what it is like to be Greek. The Alpha Gam team shared with those they met with what Alpha

Gamma Delta is about and what we will be contributing to the campus.

LA Colonization is Underway!

Alpha Gam is coming back in a BIG way! Re-Colonization of the Delta

Alpha (UCLA), Delta Epsilon (USC), and Delta Eta (SDSU) has begun and

is on the track to major success.

Some of the Delta Tau Alumnae will become Advisors to the new

chapters!

Alpha Gamma Delta will not participate in formal recruitment on any of the campuses this fall but will instead hold their own recruitment effort after the other sororities on campus have gone through gone through formal recruitment. The Orange County Alumnae Chapter is proud to be sharing some its most outstanding sisters with

2

the newly colonized chapters. A number of the young Delta Tau Alumnae were chosen to become a part of the Advisory Board for both the Delta Alpha and Delta Epsilon Chapters. ΔΕ (UCLA):

• Michelle Angelo • Martha Haake • Kelly Griffiths • Kim Katz • Shannon Peterka

ΔΑ (USC):

• Kayla Ferrari Many of our OCAC

3

members have fond memories of retreats held at the UCLA Chapter House. We are excited that it will soon be filled with new sisters who, with their excellent leadership teams, will cultivate and cherish fantastic life-long friendships and begin Living with Purpose.

Delta Tau Details

1

Delta Tau has approximately 125 members returning to campus this fall, we expect that quota for this fall's pledge classes will be around 60. The all-sorority GPA was a 3.387 compared to the all-women's GPA of 3.368, but unfortunately that was only good enough for 5th out of 8 sororities, just .001 behind 4th place!

Chapman welcomed Kappa Kappa Gamma as their 8th NPC group to campus this past spring. There are now 9 IFC groups on campus with the additions of Sigma Alpha Mu and Phi Delta Theta this spring. The Delta Tau women are so excited to meet their new sisters from Delta Alpha, Delta Epsilon and Delta Eta this fall!

Upcoming Dates for Delta Tau

2

Delta Tau is also planning a speaker/outreach event with a reception beforehand tentatively named "Unmask the Cure", hopefully to be held during Diabetes Awareness Week in early November. Delta Tau will not be holding a Gala event this year. The women are in the process of planning an exciting new event, tentatively to be held in February 2014!
