ALPHA: FALL 2019
FIVE WAYS TO KEEP YOUR FAITH STRONG IN SUMMER
STEUBENVILLE TORONTO 2019

fiveways
to keep your faith strong in summer
Just because it’s the lazy dog days of summer doesn’t mean you can’t use
this season as a time to grow in faith! Here’s our top tips for keeping your
faith strong in the summertime.
Is there a God?Why am I here?
Where am I going?Have questions but
don’t know where to go? Try Alpha!
Alpha is for anyone and everyone – adults of any faith (or none), young or old, married or single. It provides
an opportunity to meet others and chat about some of life’s big
questions in an open, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere.
It runs for 11 weeks and each evening begins with a meal to break the ice,
then an intriguing and modern video, followed by an opportunity for small
group discussion where you can listen and speak freely and confidentially.
No question about God is seen as too simple or too hostile.
Still not sure? Come the first evening and check it out. No obligation, no obtrusive follow-up, no charge, and
childcare is provided if required.
Alpha begins Tuesday, September 24th at 6:30pm. We meet at the St. Alphonsus Liguori Church hall (810 Frank Street, Peterborough).

One of the keys to accomplishing anything is to set clear, reasonable goals for yourself. Make a commitment to pray for 10 minutes or read a small section of the Bible each day…and feel free to get creative! Designating a space (like your favourite armchair or the dining room table) as a reminder to pray is not only creative but very effective.
While you’re taking time to relax, it’s always a good idea to have something nourishing and refreshing for your soul too. Why not make a list of your top books to read during the summer (don’t forget the Bible too!) and buy or download them throughout the summer while you knock them off your list?
One of the most important parts of church is the community that can be formed, particularly through participating in programs. While many of our programs take a break during the summer, you can keep your community growing by gathering with others regularly. Make it a priority to meet up for coffee or just to chat with one or a few church friends, in a sort of small group, to have fun, stay connected, and support each other.
If your schedule is freeing up, it just might be your perfect opportunity to try something new in ministry. Offer your time and energy to a community initiative like a homeless shelter, crisis pregnancy centre, hospital, or summer camp…or you can always contact our staff to try your hand at A/V ministry, kids ministry, greeting, or reading at Mass.
Summer is meant to be a time of rejuvenation, but how often do we feel overwhelmed by the frantic pace of vacations, visits, and trying to keep the kids occupied? Instead of swapping ‘regular busyness’ for ‘summer busyness’, don’t forget to take time and prioritize what really gives you life. Whether it be gardening, a creative personal project, or even daily walks with your spouse, allow this summer and the activities you choose to rejuvenate and refresh you, and you’ll find your faith will have more room to grow too!
Bonus TipTravelling this summer? Make sure to look up a Catholic Church in the area if you’ll be away on a Sunday. The Lord never takes a vacation from us!
STEUBENVILLE TORONTO34 participants from our parish attended the Steubenville Toronto Youth Conference July 12-14. It was an incredible, transformative weekend. God is real and He made Himself known to our young people through music, talks, The Mass, confession and Eucharistic Adoration. Here are a few testimonies from some of our youth.
“”
My experience at Steubenville was like no other. This year was different and something I needed for a while. The closure I got at this conference really helped my relationship with God. - Panashe
“”
I’ve been to a couple Steubies now, but this one was something special. I really felt the Lord come and touch my heart and it gave me a sense of belonging. After the whole weekend I feel reborn and now know what God is calling me to do. - Adam

Steubenville was a life changing experience. It really got me to open up and change my perspective. And not only did I get to know God more, but I really got to connect with Him as well. - Magna
This was my very first Stubie, and I had pretty high expectations from my older siblings who went before. But even the first day had topped everything I had imagined. The Holy Spirit had touched my heart in a way I’ve never felt before. Can’t wait to go next year! - Nicole
“”
This year at Steubenville was filled with friends, laughter and Joy. The Holy Spirit touched my heart in a way I have not felt before, and I feel my relationship with God is renewed. - Eli
“”
This was my 4th steubenville. Some may say I’m a Steubie veteran now. This year I was able to grow in my faith and watch my friends strengthen their relationship with God. We learned about authentic friendships this year, and we are now helping each other get to Heaven - Naomi
