Alumni Board Report The Alumni Board would first like to say thank you. It has been seven years since we renovated 785, and we only have eight years left on our mortgage. Your support during this time has us in a very stable posi-tion. Please continue to support this endeavor as you have in the past. 2012 Founders’ Day was a huge success. We celebrated 85 years

with the presentation of a “Special Resolution” to be read in the Georgia General Assembly. Bret Thurmond, our Regional Vice President of Alpha Gamma Rho, shared this honor and he also presented a video message from Phil Josephson, Alpha Gamma Rho’s Executive Director, congratulating us on this achievement. At our business meeting, new officers were elected. Michael Pisciotta will serve as secretary, and David Ussery and Chad Brax-ton will serve as board members. Keith Boyett, Danny Vaughn, Jess Hickey, Elliott Marsh, Tom Stovall, James Dodd, Brent Sapp, Tyler Harper and I continue to serve as board members. Thank you to Luke Lanier and David

Burton for their service to this board as they rotate off. I see the next several years for Alpha Eta continuing to be a challenge as parts of the new house are beginning to need maintenance and repair. The Chapter continues to keep the membership at all-time highs, which leads to more wear and tear on the house. This is a problem we have not had in many years, and it’s one we are happy to deal with. As we move forward into the next year, discussion regarding renovations needs to be on the forefront as we continue to strive to be the premier fraternity at the University of Georgia. I hope you will always remem-ber the great memories, friendships and opportunities that 785 and Alpha Eta brought to you and come back to visit. Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us at homecoming as we go into our 85th year as the Al-pha Eta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Thank you for support, and I look forward to seeing you around.

Fraternally,Sam Watson #1175Alumni Board President

Now that spring break is over, the brothers are back and ready to get back to work and close out the semester strong at 785. Our execu-tive team has been working hard to continue the legacy left by so many successful leaders before us. We held our executive retreat on Jan. 8 and have set forth many ac-tion steps to complete the goals we

set out to accomplish that Sunday afternoon. To contin-ue to develop as a Chapter, we understand that we must continue to grow and not rest on the accomplishments of those who have come before us. We are working to build off of one of our strongest se-mesters ever for academic achievement. With the current strength of our undergraduate brothers, we have set the goal to surpass our 3.12 GPA from last semester and continue to climb the fraternity ranks at the University of Georgia. Recruitment continues to be a top priority for Alpha Eta. We sent two brothers to Recruitment School in Kansas City and continue to see positive results from that week-

end. Jack Frankhouser and his team were able to recruit 19 strong new members in the fall. This spring, Chase Cowart was able to bring in six potential members and plans on trying to surpass Jack’s strong efforts this fall. Alpha Eta has also been working to document our strong efforts in academics, recruitment and philan-thropy as we are already in the process of applying for national awards. Last year, Alpha Eta was fortunate enough to win awards in membership development, scholarship, Crescent best single issue, and Promise and Values. We are hopeful that we can bring home more honors this year. I personally look forward to seeing many of your fac-es throughout this upcoming semester and throughout what looks to be another promising season for the Daw-gs on the football field. I hope you will recognize the efforts put in by the entire Chapter to guarantee Alpha Eta will continue to be as strong as ever in the future!

Prior Proper Planning (PPP). For more than 30 years this has been the mantra used by Alpha Eta men to re-inforce the notion that nothing hap-pens by chance. Prior Proper Plan-ning also indicates the need to keep our eyes on the future, for nothing in the future will be as successful as when we plan forward. We plant the seed of future successes today.

We say all of this as a way to thoughtfully consider what the future holds. At nearly 80 undergraduate brothers in the Chapter, it is easy to simply say we are doing very well – the best we’ve ever done. Why should we even worry? For we are one recruiting mishap from that num-ber being back at 40. With 80 men, 20 or more will grad-

uate every year. That means every new brother class has to be larger than any class than nearly all of us can recall. We also say this to ensure our financial future is taken care of. We have embarked on some new initiatives designed to help keep our financial house in order. Part of this is a renewed focus on working with our gracious alumni to increase house support. No, this isn’t a request to send a check. However, any support of time, names of future brothers, and yes, money is also greatly appreciated. We are in the golden age of Alpha Eta. We are here due to the Prior Proper Planning of you and others like you that laid the groundwork for this golden age. Thank you for that PPP.

Alpha Eta Installs Gamma Delta Chapter

Nick Shealy (#1442) was an-nounced as the National Agricultural Proficiency Award winner in the area of Swine Production - Placement on Oct. 21, 2011 at the 84th National FFA Convention. The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor students who have excelled in and gained out-standing skills through their Super-vised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. Shealy’s SAE consisted of

his work on his father’s 2,400-head swine production facility where de-veloped proper swine care skills such as moving, breeding and processing the pigs. He also gained exceptional business and communication skills through his project. Shealy is fresh-man majoring in agribusiness from Maxeys, Ga. Alpha Eta would like to congratulate Brother Shealy on this prestigious award!

On Dec. 10, 2011, Alpha Eta had the honor of install-ing the Gamma Delta Chap-ter of Alpha Gamma Rho at Abraham Baldwin Agri-cultural College (ABAC). Alpha Eta sent 12 under-graduates and one alumnus to Tifton, Ga. to participate in this historic event for the new Chapter. Brothers Jack Frankhous-er, Chad Braxton, Chase Cowart, Taylor Boyett, Chan Newton and Addison Hooks traveled to Tifton on Friday, Dec. 9 to help with pre-initiation rituals and to prepare the colony for their future as a Chapter. The morn-ing of Dec. 10, the initiation team

led by former Noble Ruler Patrick Singletary began the initiation pro-cess of the 46 new members of the Gamma Delta Chapter. Other broth-ers on the initiation team included Zach Cowart, Hunter Bickers, John

Torell, Tripp Tolleson and Bo Bennett. Alumnus Mi-chael Pisciotta partici-pated in the post-initiation process and assisted Al-pha Gamma Rho’s Grand President Sandy Belden throughout the day. The ceremony was held at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village in Tifton. Thanks to all who prepared for and participated in this historic event. We look forward

to the opportunity to assist in the growth of Alpha Gamma Rho’s newest Chapter and would like to congratulate the Gamma Delta Chapter on this historic event.

Alpha Eta would like to wish its highest congratulations to the follow-ing brothers who have been admitted to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2016: Andy Lee (Statesboro, Ga.), Mark Hibbard (Loganville, Ga.), Justin Brown (Brooklet, Ga.), Patrick Sin-gletary (Hendersonville, N.C.) and

Tyson Strickland (Perry, Ga.). These five brothers’ admittance into Vet School is a testament not only to the quality of men the Chapter re-cruits, but also is a reminder of the strong emphasis the Chapter places on academic excellence. This marks the third straight year of a brother be-ing admitted into the program; these

men will join Abbett Hudson (Class of 2014) and Zebulon Duvall (Class of 2015) as students in the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Chapter is extremely proud of these brothers’ outstanding accom-plishment. We wish them all the best as they pursue becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Alpha Eta focuses on Philanthropy In the past year, philanthropy has moved to the fore-front of Alpha Eta Chapter’s vision. The philanthropy committee, philanthropy chair Michael Reilly and I have worked to grow our annual philanthropies as well as add new endeavors to serve and benefit our community. Our annual “Night in the Cold” canned food drive was once again a success. This year our Chapter collected more than 7,000 pounds of cans from sororities and broth-ers to donate to the Food Bank of northeast Georgia. For the third consecutive year AGR provided UGA Miracle’s Dance Marathon dinner for nearly 1,000 participants, allowing the organization to give more money to ben-efit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Alpha Eta’s annual “Spring Barbecue” philanthropy dinner was also a suc-cess. This year the dinner was held on the front lawn, and we sold almost 700 barbecue chicken plates. The proceeds from the event totaled around $2,000, and we plan to fund a project for the Athens Boys & Girls Club. In addition to paying for necessary materials, the Chapter also plans to personally give the service to complete to project. We have also continued to make Relay for Life a focal point of our philanthropy efforts. This year we teamed with Kappa Delta for the event, and we hosted and sponsored several events supporting Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. Some of these events included percentage nights at restaurants and bars, hosting Greek Week trivia on our front lawn, and raffling off a Yeti cooler. Lastly, this year Alpha Eta launched our park and yard cleanup initiative. Our major goal is to use our skills and manpower to beautify areas that might not have the resources necessary to complete such work. This ini-tiative has served as a great way to get brothers more involved in service and giving back to our community.

We are already looking forward to furthering our an-nual events as well as supporting the emergence of new projects this upcoming school year, ultimately improv-ing our community and strengthening our brotherhood.

Fraternally,Carson P. Hand #1408Philanthropy Chair
