I would like to take this time to introduce myself. I am Noel Frost in case you did not already know. I am your new editor, after the previous editor had decided it is time for greener and wider pastures, and I have decided to give the role of Editor a try. I have some big shoes to fill to try and do a newsletter up to the previous editor’s standards. (Even though I would never tell my brother he was doing a great job – you know what brotherly rivalry is like!) I have been interested in RC flight for about the past 6 years, but life seems to get in the way of getting to the airfield as much as I would like.. I have been known to fly electric’s as well as fuel powered planes, and I just love my Parkzone Radion glider. For this newsletter to succeed I will need your help, so if you have any good ideas, articles, pictures, or jokes for the newsletter please feel free to drop me an email anytime ([email protected]) Cheers Noel Frost.

SECRETARY REPORT POST 30th JULY 2012 MEETING INSURANCE ****PLEASE READ

Extract from last month but the question is still coming up.

“The AMAS has been offering alternate Insurance to some ‘social flyers’ but the MAAA has advised Insurance claims with the MAAA at registered fields could be in doubt if visitors only have this AMAS cover, therefore the Club will not accept AMAS Insurance flyers at our field in the current situation. Please ensure any visitors you may sign in have the MAAA cover (ie AUS number) in the book.”

---------------------------------------- Alan Roshier had a round of applause as a new CD with the 2,4,6,8 Glider comp – thanks Alan, and a visitor made up the 3rd generation Davis clan at the meet and volunteered to help grandpa round up and organise the old flyers (in lieu of dad) at the next comp – NO BULL! - Red bull? oh.. Large Scale Racing – thanks Cooper. Two requests for use of the field were received – The VFSAA State Champs in April was considered favourably, but will possibly only be available bi-annually if requested again and our Pylon members requested 2 exclusive Sundays for visitor practise which resulted in considerable discussion on other members usage and noise concerns. This item remains open for further discussion. The other items discussed are covered within the newsletter. The previous newsletter editor Neil Frost has stood down and passed the task on to brother Noel and our thanks go to Neil for the excellent effort over the past year. While Noel has a new standard to set he can at least bite back without constraint from the previous Editor. Our sincere thanks to the old and new. Meeting Closed and AGM opened. Previous AGM minutes and reports were read and accepted. Presidents and treasurer reports given. There were no proxy votes or nominations submitted and all Committee members stood down. Nominations were called for and all positions filled again by the previous occupants. AGM Closed. WOT’S COMING UP with Dam Dairy Sunday Aug 26th --------------------------------------------------------------- Club Pylon Race - CPR and Trainer Racing 11am start Marong. Monday Aug 27th -------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting - Lockwood Rd 7.45 Kangaroo Flat. Sunday Sept 16th -------------------------------------------------------------- Glider 5 min. Elimination Event 1pm Start Marong Sunday October 7th ----------------------------------------------------------- Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Need Help Please! 8.30 - 4pm. THIS MONTH’S REPORTS. Great Texan Race and Redbull 120 race day GTR and Redbull racing was on Sunday the 12th of August and how lucky were we with the weather. It rained all week, eased on Saturday and the ideal weather on Sunday for racing, a little wind with warm sunny breaks during the day and about 16 or more degrees, just what we wanted. When the entries started to come in they were from far and wide, from areas like Central NSW, Warrnambool, Geelong, Melbourne, Rosebud, Bacchus Marsh and Shepparton, thus given us 22 entries. This was a little more than we really wanted, but I couldn't say no to anyone of them, so it’s going to be big day ahead. Entrants were asked to be there at 10 am to start racing, if the weather was suitable, and it was. Two rounds were completed before lunch, with all the pilots lined up ready to race as soon as the previous race had finished. It made it easy to get the first two rounds in. After lunch two more rounds were flown, and the racing was of a high standard with close calls and nice manoeuvring made very entertaining watching with the lead changing some times 3 or 4 times during the race. This is what racing is all about, it gets the adrenaline running and enjoying it. A break before the last round was required for our button pushers, for a pee and a drink. Come the last round and it was on. This is where most pilots really go for it, and try for the fastest times possible as your worst score is dropped, and you score off your best four scores. Two Turbo Ravens racing in the Redbull class were going for it, when they touched each other coming out of turn three and the result ( check Billy's photos on the web site he caught it on film) one survived and the other a total, bits everywhere if you know what I mean, laid out nicely down the runway...... Racing finished by 5 minutes to 4 o'clock, presentation was right on time. We had done very well with the help of all the pilots and our thanks goes to the helpers in the timing cage, John Newman with the computer scoring and the canteen staff for giving up their day to come and help us. Also Model Engines who kindly donate the race fuel for our event, every year. Results are as follows:- Texans 1st Les Sawyer RedBull 1st Leigh Kellock 2nd Greg Lepp 2nd Les Sawyer 3rd Phil Pope 3rd Cliff McIver (continued)

DID YA CATCH IT.? It seems no matter what happens these days it all caught on film, yes there’s cameras everywhere watching and waiting for that moment, and our camera man Bill Matthews seems to be on the right spot lots of the time. He probably doesn't get all the accolades he deserves and sometimes we miss him when he's in the crowd taking pics, but we still thank him for what he does with his camera, those wonderful pictures he has been able to capture for us. Now check out these 3 pictures from Bill's camera. Aircraft still in the air with a part of the wing missing, that wonderful shot of the eagle, and just last week the mid-air in the scale racing and the bounce of the Turbo Raven aircraft as it returned to kit form.

Little Bit of Goss … From the flight line / grapevine. New One, a Maiden Our president Andrew Thomas has a maiden on his hands. What maiden has Andy got, well you may ask? It’s with his new aircraft the new Aermacchi Marchetti S F 260. Info found on Wikipedia are the Aermacchi SF.260 is a light aircraft marketed as an aerobatics and military trainer. It was designed by Stelio Frati, originally for Aviamilano, which flew the first prototype of it (then designated F.260) on July 15, 1964. Actual production was undertaken when SIAI Marchetti purchased the design soon thereafter, and continued with this firm until the company was bought by Aermacchi in 1997. The military versions are popular with smaller air forces, which can also arm it for use in the close-support role.

Andrew's new aircraft waiting Maiden flight. The real thing. Google web site LOGO on the 24-7-2012 Did you see this on the Google web site to celebrate her 115th birthday or 75 years after her disappearance of Amelia Earhart.

Seventy five years after her disappearance and 115 years following her birth, Google is honouring the pioneering American aviator (and author) Amelia Earhart. The aviation heroine's end still remains an enigma. The doodle on Amelia Earhart's 115th birth anniversary shows her climbing up her Lockheed Vega 5B monoplane, Earhart's yellow scarf fluttering in the wind. The Google letters take the place of the original

registration number of the Lockheed Vega 5b - NR-7952 - painted. This was found on the Google Web site, on the 24-7-2012. Maggie Attack. That bloody magpie is back with his or her beak snapping at our heads again. You never get too much warning that an attack is coming, and next thing you know is that clipping snapping sound is above you, scary to say the least. This message is if you are going flying, take a hat or cap and wear it, a helmet would be also good for protection. These maggie attacks could last for the next 6 to 8 weeks, so be warned and take some protection for your head. Swoosh, clack, clack, swoosh, clack, clack. Maggie attack! LANDING……
