The mild temperatures, the bright natural light of the Al-merian sky, the port nestled in the heart of the city; all make this an incredible and relaxed place to walk around and explore.

Almería is a historical Mediterranean enclave, a world of contrasts where virgin beaches coexist with deserts and snowy mountain peaks, castles and old mosques, chur-ches and ancient winding streets. The Alcazaba fortress is an important landmark from the 10th Century, which today is the largest standing fortress built by the Arabs in Spain.

Walk down from the fortress to the charming Plaza Vieja, where you can have a rest in the Hamman, the site of the original Arab baths whilst enjoying a relaxing massage on heated marble slabs. You can also visit the Aljibes (Mus-lim cisterns), built by Jairan in the 11th Century to supply water to the population. A short stroll takes you to the Cathedral, built as a fortress to avoid Barbarian raids from North Africa, which continued until 1700. This fortified Gothic Cathedral boasts an impressive rich interior. Then you can have free time to browse around the shops, tapa bars and cafes in the bustling city centre.

Almeria Walking TourAlmeria developed from the need to provide a better defence system, to protect the 10th century, new Arabic settlements. It was Abd-al-Rahman III who founded the Citadel, and built the Alcazaba fortress that commands a superb view over the town and the port.

Flamenco Tour

Mojácar

Almería province located on the Mediterranean coast has a unique charm. It offers more than 100 km of unspoilt coast, boasting a diverse landscape of incom-parable beauty. It is also worth experiencing its local Folklore and Flamenco.

Flamenco is without doubt, one of the main images that foreigners have of Spain. It is about a musical “Folkloric” performance that originates from the Anda-

lusia of old, portraying oriental aspects and gypsy cul-ture. Flamenco has art, charm, colours, beauty, streng-th, passion, enjoyment, purity and soul.

Today, Flamenco in Almería is found at the peñas (fan associations), such as “El Taranto” or “El Morato.” Enjoy an entertainment that will leave you spellbound!.

The old village of Mojácar is nestled 175 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera. Its whi-tewashed houses look like artistically arranged sugar cubes on a hillside, overlooking a breathtaking view of the valley and the Mediterranean sea. Walk through the labyrinth of narrow and charming streets, enjoy a day shopping or try the local cuisine, whilst gazing out to sea.

With its 17 km of coastline, Mojácar is an ideal place to make the most of its beaches or to practice water sports. Other opportunities to enjoy are: hiking, moun-tain biking, horse riding, golf, surf, sailing, swimming, etc.

On this visit you will get to know El Toyo and the Na-tural Park of Cabo de Gata-Nijar, which is a Biosphere Reserve. You can have an enjoyable stroll along the promenade at El Toyo, then continue to Torregarcía, a small chapel built on the site where the image of the Virgin del Mar appeared in 1502. On the way there, stop at Las Amoladeras, the visitor centre, for your in-troduction to the Natural Park.

Arriving at Cabo de Gata, enjoy the main features: the salt flats, the bird watching observatory, the church of Las Salinas, and La Fabriquilla with its typical bars. View the breathtaking scenery from the top of the hill. Then head off to Nijar village with a worldwide repu-tation for its handicrafts.

In the Desert of Tabernas, the former film sets of the famous spaghetti westerns have now turned into two theme parks.

These sets were the haunts of popular Hollywood film stars from the 60´s and 70’s. Famous actors such as Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Anthony Quinn and Sean Connery all worked there. The Tabernas Desert is unique in Europe. Beautiful and enigmatic landscapes which recreated scenes from legendary films in the history of cinema, such as: “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The good, the bad and the ugly”, “A fistful of dollars” and “Indiana Jones and the last crusade”.

Enjoy the daily cowboy stunt show performed by a group of specialists in authentic western style and the cancan dancers in the saloon bar. One of the theme parks also has a zoological reserve with more than 800 animals and 200 different species.

The Arab Nazarí Kingdom reached its highest levels of beauty and culture in Granada, before it suffered from civil wars and the city finally surrendered to the Catholic Monarchs. In this same year the Spanish expedition, led by Christopher Columbus, first set foot on American soil.

Luckily, the sultans left the greatest testimony of their

splendour in Granada: The Alhambra, one of the most admired monuments in the world.

Granada is the key to understanding the rise and fall of a civilisation that once stretched from Morocco to Syria. Bill Clinton once said that “From the Alhambra, you can see one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world”.

The Alpujarra is a high mountain region with typi-cal small whitewashed villages in the Sierra Nevada. Tourist interest has now increased due to its amazing landscapes, traditions and wines. Most Alpujarra wines are produced in relatively small cellars.

Local vineyards in the Alpujarras are located at the hi-ghest altitude in Europe, so the maturation period is

longer. The good quality wines of the Alpujarras are produced thanks to the combination of climate and soil, which is both porous and rich in slate.

It’s worthwhile getting to know the ancient country lifestyle and to share a glass of a wine with these ge-nuine people.
