Rochefort 8 degree The Abbey of St-Remy, in the southern part of Belgium, was founded in 1230, and the monks began to brew beer sometime around 1595. The beautiful small brewery in the abbey, Rochefort Trappistes, is one of only six Trappist breweries in the world and makes full-bodied, deeply flavoured dark ales. They are bottle-conditioned and among the world's most highly-respected beverages. Dry but rich with sweet tea and fig notes to complement the aromatic fullness

Rodenbach Gran Cru Probably no other brewery specialises so much in such an unusual product. A national treasure! The definitive example of Flanders red beer. Aged for two years in huge brandy casks (there are 300 of these vessels) - all uncoated oak - each containing up to 60,000 litres. This is unique in the world and helps give the sour, tart taste and very unusual red colour. This is a fully matured beer with a powerful bouquet and taste. Highly distinctive!

The most unusual beer style in the world where fermentation depends on wild yeasts in the atmosphere. Brewing of Lambic is only done in a small area near Brussels, by only a dozen or so brewers. When fruit is added a further fermentation occurs resulting in champagne like beer. The brewers, themselves, vary from the large to the small traditionalists. Our selection is as varied too and the beer with no fruit is called gueuze.

Throughout the world Liefmans is famous for its unique fruit beers. The base beer, Goudenband, a top fermented brown ale is superb on its own. The Kriek (Cherry) is made once a year, traditionally from the Schaerbeek cherries, which are allowed to dry like prunes on the tree. These cherries are doubly scarce as the birds enjoy them too! The drying intensifies the flavour, as in sun-dried tomatoes and concentrates the fermentable sugars. The cherries mature together with the Goudenband for at least six months and produce a fruity and refreshing beer. Framozenbier of Framboise (Raspberry) is a subtle sweet blend of raspberries with the Goudenband beer.

The following beers are what we consider to be acceptable alternatives for people who cannot or wish not to drink beer with alcohol in. These beers are suitable for drivers. But please note that they do contain a slight amount of alcohol. In our opinion they offer a far better alternative for beer drinkers who are driving and do not want to drink pop or soft drinks all night. To avoid confusion all beers that we offer in non alcoholic forms are not available at the normal strength so if you are in a round you can order your beer by name and know that you are getting a product with no, or little, alcohol in it. Have a good night and drive safely!
