aluminium and anodised. See Sections B15 and B16 for further detail. • Mainsheet attachment Two webbing straps are included, fixed into place to fit the

requirements of the boat – see Section B18 for further details. • Boom vang attachment One Boom Vang Slider is fixed into place to fit the requirements of the

boat – see Section B18 for further details. • Outhaul The outhaul is controlled by a 4:1 purchase system (3:1 on AYB-130) set

up inside the boom section, using standard double braid line. The outhaul is attached to the clew of the mainsail utilising a webbing strap – see Section B18 for further details.

• Reefing Booms are set up for slab reefing with two reefs fully installed, with sufficient reefing line to run from the boom to the deck and back to the cockpit. The third reef hardware is installed but without the reefing line.

be reefed at the same time with a single reefing line. Note that this is for first and second reefs only.

• Lines to mast Reefing and outhaul lines run to a mast winch (not included – needs to be ordered separately), with jammers on the boom for securing lines.

• Spectra lines All lines on the boom, ie. outhaul and reefing lines, are upgraded to spectra (high-strength / low-stretch).

• Third reef Reefing line is added – note that fittings inc. sheaves are already included with the standard boom (consequently third reef can be added at any time).

Section B1 Sheaves, Pins, U Bolts B1.1 Sheaves Updates for this section: 29/04/05

The Allyacht Spars range of sheaves is manufactured from high-grade lubricated synthetic material with excellent properties for handling both rope and wire. In addition to its strength and ability to hold its properties over a long period of time, this material is oil-impregnated, ensuring that it is virtually maintenance-free. Allyacht Spars sheaves are used in all Allyacht Spars masts and booms, and are also used in selected Seldén masts and booms in high-load applications, including all multihulls, and also monohulls with a high righting moment.

Allyacht Spars Australia Catalogue – Part B 9/04/201510/02/20159/10/2007

Section B3 Spreaders, Diamonds, Forward Jumpers, Masthd. Jumpers A wide range of combinations of Spreaders, Diamonds, Forward Jumpers and Masthead Jumpers is available for use on cruising, cruiser/racer and racing yachts, and for both monohulls and multihulls. All are manufactured from aluminium, either tube or Allyacht Spars custom spreader section (see Section B3.6), and are fully anodised. B3.1 Spreaders - Standard Updates for this section: 27/07/05; 21/05/07 Standard Spreader sets are available in five different sizes, all based on the same design, but each set is customised for spreader length and spreader angle, as determined by the Allyacht Spars mast design process. The design has proven to be successful in catering for these variations, and as such is equally effective for Inline Spreaders (at 90° to centreline of boat) as for Aft-swept Spreaders. Spreaders comprise a mast band, which is fixed to the mast, with a pair of extruded aluminium spreader arms fixed to it with stainless steel bolts (see Section B3.6 for details of spreader sections), and Spreader Tips. The band is made of the same alloy as the mast to minimize corrosion, and extends around the front of the mast to spread the load. All Spreader components are fully anodised. If external tangs are being used (for diagonal stays or runners), the band is extended to ensure a solid footing for the tang’s fixing bolt and spacer tube. Spreader Tips are made from aluminium casting and are positively attached to the stay wire to prevent the arm sliding up or down. Note that Aft-swept Spreaders require special tuning to achieve proper mast control.

B3.2 Diamonds & Forward Jumpers Updates for this section: 27/07/05; 22/05/06 Diamond sets are commonly used on multihull rigs for sideways support. Diamonds may also be combined with a Forward Jumper, the latter projecting forward from the mast with the diamonds swept-back to give fore and aft support to the mast section as well as sideways support. The forward struts are simply bolted to the existing diamond band. Diamond sets comprise a band, which is fixed to the mast, with a pair of extruded aluminium spreader arms fixed to it with stainless steel bolts (see Section B3.6 for details of spreader sections), and Spreader Tips. The band is made of the same alloy as the mast to minimize corrosion, and extends around the front of the mast to spread the load. Each Forward Jumper strut is made from aluminium tube, fabricated at the inner end to fix to the band, and at the outer end to fix to the wire. All diamond components are fully anodised. Spreader Tips are made from aluminium casting and are positively attached to the diamond wire to prevent the arm sliding up or down.

B3.4 Masthead Jumpers Updates for this section: 27/07/05 Masthead Jumper sets are custom-made for each application, as determined by the Allyacht Spars mast design process. On fractional rigs, they may be angled forward to control tip bend, or angled aft for mast tip support when using a masthead spinnaker. Masthead Jumpers comprise a band, which is fixed to the mast, with a pair of extruded aluminium spreader arms welded to it with reinforcing for extra strength (see Section B3.6 for details of spreader sections), and Spreader Tips. The base is made of the same alloy as the mast to minimize corrosion, and extends around the front of the mast to spread the load. All Masthead Jumper components are fully anodised. B3.5 Spreader Tips Updates for this section: 18/04/06 Spreader Tips are cast aluminium, made to be lightweight, strong and corrosion resistant, while still being neat in appearance. They are locked on to the stay wire by two stainless steel Allen head cap screws. These spreader tips are also suitable for use with standard link plates commonly used on most wire and rod rigging arrangements. Spreader Tips are supplied individually, therefore two will be required for each set of Spreaders, Diamonds, or Masthead Jumpers. They are supplied anodised, which enhances the appearance as well as providing effective corrosion resistance.

Section B4 Goosenecks, Sail Entries B4.1 Goosenecks Updates for this section: 28/07/05; 17/11/05; 20/02/06; 23/06/06 These high quality stainless steel goosenecks suit the Allyacht Spars range of mast sections. Cast or fabricated in stainless steel, they are robust, corrosion resistant, and consistent in tolerance. All standard goosenecks comprise a mast plate, a knuckle, a T-bar which provides the reefing horns, and a captive tack shackle. They are made for easy assembly and disassembly. Variations

Reinforcement Reinforcement of the gooseneck is necessary for boats which generate high loads on the boom. This includes racing monohulls utilising high boom vang pressure, most severe when reaching, and multihulls with rotating masts. Reinforcement consists of plates welded on to either side of the gooseneck mast plate, spreading the boom forces over a wider area of the mast.

AYS235 & AYS250 The mast plate to suit these masts is wider than normal, to fit the wide aft surface of these mast sections. The resulting extra stability does away with the need for reinforcement.

Modified knuckle This involves resizing the hole in the gooseneck knuckle, which may be necessary to suit non-Allyacht Spars booms, to accommodate the pin in the boom IBE (In Board End). This may also require reinforcing of the knuckle.

Seldén booms Seldén booms require modification of the knuckle as described above – resizing the hole and consequent reinforcing of the knuckle.

B4.3 Sail Entries - RCB Tracks Updates for this section: 28/07/05; 19/10/05; 17/11/05; 27/01/06 Allyacht Spars supplies a number of different RCB tracks to suit the various batten car systems that are available (see Section 28 for details of RCB tracks). The following items are allied to RCB tracks. Head Cover This is fixed to the top end of a ‘push-up’ track to prevent sails or ropes

catching on the edges. The internal rubber blocks allow for track expansion and contraction. Two Part Nos. are available, ‘small’ and ‘large’ - see Table below.

RCB Gate This allows the RCB cars or sliders to be fitted on to the track above the gooseneck.

Variations Two Part Nos. are available, ‘small’ and ‘large’ - see Table below. For each Part No. ie. ‘small’ and ‘large’, there are four styles of RCB Gate. All four styles are designed to allow the RCB cars/sliders to be loaded on to the RCB track on the mast, with the variation designed to cater for the particular characteristics of each RCB car/slider.

Add-on-track gate This is used for masts with an add-on RCB track, including Allyacht Spars push-up tracks (IMRCB.A, AYS-22R.A and AYS-26R.A - see Section 28) and any other commercially available screw-on tracks. A 330mm gap is left in the track, then the gap is filled with a piece of the same track which is screwed into place and remains removable for loading or unloading RCB cars/sliders.

Cut gate 330mm This is used for masts with an integral RCB track (IM18R and IM21R). It is otherwise the same as the ‘Add-on-track gate’.

Cut gate 130mm This is used for masts with an integral RCB track (IM18R and IM21R) where there is NOT a double-car/slider arrangement on the headboard.

Single-side cut-out gate

This entry is made by altering a short section of the RCB track by removing one side of the top flange to enable the RCB cars/sliders to be put on to the track then moved up on to the full track. A removable screw is replaced in the entry to keep the cars/sliders in place above the entry.

Assemble RCB Track This Part No. includes both Head Cover and RCB Gate, as well as the process of installing a ‘push-up’ track, with the Head Cover and the RCB Gate, on to a mast (note that the track itself is not included in this Part No. and must be ordered separately in the required length). Two Part Nos. are available, ‘small’ and ‘large’ - see Table below.

B4.4 Sail Track Accessories Updates for this section: 28/07/05; 19/10/05 Sail Entries The Sail Entry Slot is a modification to the mast track to enable fitting of

sail slugs. The Bolt Rope Entry Ramp is a fitting, unique to Allyacht Spars masts,

which ensures smooth feeding of a boltrope into the mast. It is made of stainless steel, is resistant to wear and has a smooth rounded head at the entry.

Sail Slide Stops These devices are used for sails with slugs, and prevent the slugs from slipping out of the mast section when the sail has been pulled down. They are put into the bottom end of the track after the sail has been loaded, and fixed temporarily with a grub screw with a winged head (allowing it to be done by hand). If the sail is to be removed from the mast, the Sail Slide Stop is unscrewed by hand and removed, but is not lost as it is retained by a wire strop. There is a version that suits the Boltrope track (AYS-062.A) and one that suits the Trisail track (IMST-T.A).

Track Ends This makes a neat end to a 32mm track, either the T-track 32mm (IMT32.A) or the Trisail track 7/8” (IMST-T.A), preventing ropes, sails or crew from catching on the ends.

Section B5 Deck Collars B5.1 Deck Collars Updates for this section: 08/08/05; 26/10/05; 13/02/06 Deck Collar Kits are used on keel-stepped masts to provide support for the mast where it goes through the deck whilst waterproofing the opening. The Deck Collar itself is fabricated from aluminium and fully anodised, and is fixed into the opening in the deck, with the mast passing through it. The gap between mast and Deck Collar, 12-15mm, is filled by three rubber O-rings fitted around the mast, protecting the mast from abrasion and point-loading against the Deck Collar. A rubber boot fits tightly around the mast above the Deck Collar, the lower perimeter being secured around the Deck Collar itself by means of a customised stainless steel hose-clamp. The rubber boot is sized so that the up stand above the deck is high enough to enable a good waterproof attachment to the mast, yet low enough to permit the fitting of the vang bracket as low as possible to the deck. Deck Collars also provide attachment points for turning blocks, which enables halyards, reefing lines and other control lines to exit the mast and boom, then to be led to the deck and back to the cockpit. The standard Deck Collar includes 10 attachment points for turning blocks (turning blocks must be ordered separately – see B27.4). Allyacht Spars Australia uses the Pinned style, in which each attachment point is a vertically-standing stainless steel pin with a hole to accommodate the clevis pin from the turning block. This allows each turning block to angle and rotate to the optimal position for the line that it is controlling. Also included on the Deck Collar is a halyard bail, which is located forward of the mast, providing an attachment point for unused halyards. Deck Collars are sized to suit the Allyacht Spars range of mast sections, or can be custom made to suit specific needs. Variations Deck Collars are available in three forms.

Ordering When ordering Deck Collars, please specify: 1. The Part Number 2. Mast size and section type (supply sample if not standard) 3. Deck angle from level - a dimension is best 4. Mast rake - if not specified, one degree will be allowed NB. Camber is not allowed for - all collars must be fitted to a flat surface.

Standard Deck Collars will only fit mast extrusions indicated – for other sections, a customised Deck Collar may be possible.

B5.2 Foam Sealing Plug Updates for this section: 28/07/05 A Foam Sealing Plug is used in keel-stepped masts to prevent water travelling down the inside of the mast to the base where it can leak into the boat’s interior. Made of high-density closed-cell foam, the plug fits snugly into the inside of the mast and is positioned above deck level, with a drain hole through the mast immediately above the plug. The hole through the Foam Sealing Plug accepts the electrical wiring conduit if the wiring is to exit below deck level.

Section B6 Vang Brackets B6.1 Vang Brackets Updates for this section: 29/07/05; 24/07/06 Stainless steel Vang Brackets are fixed to the mast to allow multiple-purchase-tackle boom vangs or solid Rodkick-type boom vangs to be used. The components of the bracket are identical to Allyacht Spars gooseneck components except that the pin connecting knuckle to mast base does not have the T-bar (see Section B4 Goosenecks). Reinforcement of the Vang Bracket is necessary for boats which generate high loads on the boom. This includes racing monohulls utilising high boom vang pressure, most severe when reaching, and multihulls with rotating masts. Reinforcing consists of plates welded on to either side of the Vang Bracket mast plate, spreading the boom forces over a wider area of the mast.

Section B7 Mast Bases Updates for this section: 08/08/05; 01/02/06 Mast Bases comprise a Heel Plug sized to suit the Allyacht Spars Australia range of mast sections, and in some cases, a Deck Plate also. Heel Plugs and Deck Plates are cast or fabricated from high-grade aluminium alloy, and are fully anodised for corrosion resistance. The Mast Base is usually fixed to the deck or keelson prior to stepping the mast. It is imperative to use a suitable sealant between components to minimize corrosion (ie. between Heel Plug and mast section, and between Heel Plug and Deck Plate if used). Note that Safety Regulations may require the mast section to be firmly secured to the boat (ie. mast section secured to Heel Plug and Heel Plug in turn secured to keelson or deck). Please refer to relevant Safety Regulations for further details. Fitting: Note that a reasonable level of competence may be required for fitting components. Whilst Allyacht Spars Australia endeavours to provide suitable instructions where required, it remains the sole responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that items are fitted safely and effectively. B7.1 Heel Plugs Updates for this section: 08/08/05 Heel Plugs provide a firm footing for the mast section to sit on. In addition to anodising, they are protected by a synthetic coating. On deck-stepped boats, they may be used in conjunction with a Deck Plate.

B7.2 Deck Plates - Standard Updates for this section: 08/08/05; 26/10/05; 13/02/06 Deck Plates provide attachment points for turning blocks on deck-stepped boats, which enables halyards, reefing lines and other control lines to exit the mast and boom, then to be led to the deck and back to the cockpit. The standard Deck Plate includes 10 attachment points for turning blocks (turning blocks must be ordered separately – see B27.4). Allyacht Spars Australia uses the Pinned style, in which each attachment point is a vertically-standing stainless steel pin with a hole to accommodate the clevis pin from the turning block. This allows each turning block to angle and rotate to the optimal position for the line that it is controlling. The standard Deck Plate is of the dimensions shown below, with a hole in each corner for fixing to the deck, and four holes and fastenings to fit the Heel Plug to the Deck Plate. Note that the Heel Plug must be ordered separately. Variations:

B7.4 Deck Plates - With Built-in Sheaves (for internal halyards) Updates for this section: 08/08/05; 13/02/06 These Deck Plates suit deck-stepped boats where internal halyards and other control lines exit the mast at deck level. This is an alternative to using a standard Deck Plate with turning blocks, and is only suitable for halyards/control lines that will not be ‘bounced’ at the mast (ie. pulled by hand from the exit slot on the mast). The Deck Plate has a hole in each corner for fixing to the deck, and four holes and fastenings to fit the Heel Plug to the Deck Plate. Note that the Heel Plug must be ordered separately. Section B8 Winch Pads Updates for this section: 02/08/05; 01/02/06 Winch Pads provide a firm, flat base for fitting winches to the mast or boom. They are made from aluminium alloy and fully anodised. The pad sits on the outside of the mast or boom, with the reinforcing plate inside, fixed by means of the winch bolts. Ordering Sizing of the Winch Pad is determined by the size of the winch base diameter (except for electric winches, for which there is one part only). The table below shows the appropriate size for Andersen Winches that are commonly used as mast or boom winches. For other winch brands, check the base diameter and choose the Winch Pad with a base diameter larger than the winch base diameter. Alternatively consult with an Allyacht Spars Australia representative. B8.1 Winch Pads – Mast/Boom Side-Mounted Updates for this section: 02/08/05; 01/12/05; 24/02/06 Winches are commonly mounted on the sides of the mast to manage control lines such as halyards and topping lifts, and on the sides of the boom to manage the outhaul and reefing lines. The following Winch Pads provide a flat surface to enable such winches to be mounted. Note that all Winch Pads include a reinforcing plate. For supply of halyard winches, contact Allyacht Spars Australia, the Australian distributor for Andersen Winches. For further information, refer to Section B27 or go to www.andersenwinches.com

Section B11 Spreader Links B11.1 Link Plates Updates for this section: 19/10/05 Link Plates are used with discontinuous rigging, and are fitted at the spreader tip to join the upper and lower parts of a stay wire. Rigging wires are connected to the Link Plate with either a Rigging Screw or a Swage Toggle. Every Link Plate is customised according to the pin sizes, tang sizes and stay angles of the particular application. Link Plates are supplied as a pair. Variations Three types of Link Plate are available.

Capstay These have attachments for two wires on one side and one wire on the other side. The usual applications are on monohull rigs: • upper side - intermediate stay and capstay; lower side - single capstay • upper side – single capstay; lower side – diamond stay and lower capstay

The size of Capstay Link Plate required is determined by the largest pin size at the Link Plate.

Nested Diamond These have attachments for two wires on both the upper side and the lower side, and are usually used on multihulls with nested diamond rigs (linking inner and outer diamond wires). The size of Nested Diamond Link Plate required is determined by the largest pin size at the Link Plate.

Double Diamond These have attachments for one wire on the upper side and one wire on the lower side, and are used on double diamond rigs on multihulls. The size of Double Diamond Link Plate required is determined by the pin size at the Link Plate, which should be the same for upper as for lower.

Ordering When ordering Link Plates, please specify the following:

1. The Part Number. 2. Functions of all wires connecting to the Link Plate. 3. Pin sizes of all fittings connecting to the Link Plate. 4. Angle of spreader/diamond arm to mast 5. Angles of all wires connecting to the Link Plate (vertical = 0 degrees).

Section B12 T-ball Rigging & Tangs B12.1 T-Ball Rigging Updates for this section: 19/08/05; 01/02/06; 10/08/06 T-ball rigging is a system for joining rigging wire to the mast. It involves a stainless steel T-ball fitting swaged to the end of the wire, and simply hooked into the appropriately-sized hole in the mast which is reinforced by a stainless steel Backing Plate fixed inside the mast. In some applications, a T-ball Rigging Screw may be used eg. one end of diamonds and jumpers. In situations where the rigging wire may be slack at times, such as running backstays and checkstays, a Strap (Part No. 507-503) may be used to cover the top end and keep the T-ball in place. Variations Allyacht Spars Australia uses the three types of T-ball rigging shown below. OS Rigging OS fittings (from BSI in Denmark - www.bsi-dk.dk ) have the advantage of being very easy to fit. Those Part Nos. ending with HL are for High Load situations.

Section B13 Spinnaker Gear B13.1 Spinnaker Pole Adjusting Tackles Updates for this section: 26/08/05 A Pole Adjusting Tackle enables the spinnaker pole to be raised and lowered on the mast if the mast is fitted with a Spinnaker Track (such as Part Nos. IMFT32 or IMFT32/2 – see Section 28.1) and Spinnaker Pole Slider. This is necessary for dip-pole gybing, assists effective trimming of the spinnaker, and enables vertical-stowage of the spinnaker pole. The system consists of an endless loop rope from the top of the Slider up to the top end of the track, down to the bottom end of the track, then up to the bottom end of the Slider. Sufficient rope is provided in the loop to enable cleating (cleat is provided). The standard system is single-purchase and includes cheek blocks at top and bottom of the track. An alternative, necessary to handle the weight of bigger spinnaker poles, is double-purchase with roller blocks. A third alternative is the heavy-duty system which is usually used in conjunction with a mast-mounted Line Tender Winch (Part No. 491401). DESCRIPTION PART NO. SUIT MAST SIZE

B14.4 Wiring And Fittings Updates for this section: 26/08/05; 01/02/06 Conduit Kits are for installation in a mast to carry electrical wiring. Each kit unit is a 4 metre length of conduit plus fasteners, and is sized (diameter) according to how many wires need to be run, which is usually in proportion to mast size. A Mast Wiring Exit is an aluminium tube that fits neatly to the outside of the mast, enabling electrical wiring to exit the mast. On a deck-stepped mast, it is generally fitted just above the Heel Plug (an alternative is to run the wiring through the Mast Base and deck into the cabin). On a keel-stepped mast, it may be fitted just above the Mast Collar or alternatively on the mast below the deck. A Deck Wiring Exit is similar in construction and used in conjunction with a Mast Wiring Exit above deck level. The two fittings are joined by a flexible conduit, enabling the wiring to be protected as it is led out of the mast and through the deck. PART NO. DESCRIPTION USE

Section B19 Boom Vang Lugs B19.1 Boom Vang Lugs - Alloy Updates for this section: 26/08/05; 19/01/07 Designed for use with Rodkicks and vang tackles on customised mast-section booms, the alloy Boom Vang Lug is an alternative to a stainless steel lug (see B10.1). The alloy lug spreads the load through the boom by means of a long, broad internal base plate shaped to fit the curvature of the boom section. The base plate is fixed inside the boom, and the body of the lug (which has a hole to accommodate the Rodkick or boom vang pin) protrudes through a slot cut in the bottom of the boom section. Section B21 Lazy Jacks B21.1 Lazy Jacks Updates for this section: 26/08/05 Lazy Jacks are a system for containing the mainsail when reefing or lowering the sail. The sail falls between the Lazy Jack lines and rests on the boom until such time as the sail can be secured. They are designed for use with fully battened or conventional sails and are rigged with an internal halyard. Lazy Jacks are perfect for single or short handed cruising. A Lazy Jack kit contains every component required for simple easy installation.

021.400 Lazy Jacks suit 18m boat internal B21.2 Boom Cradles Updates for this section: 19/01/07 A Boom Cradle is an option for enhancing Lazy Jacks, particularly beneficial on boats with large mainsails that are difficult to handle, and especially if sailed short-handed. It consists of a carrying arm along each side of the boom, forming a broad platform on to which the mainsail will drop, aided by the Lazy Jacks, when lowering or reefing the sail.

Section B22 Boom Vangs and Rodkicks B22.1 Boom Vang Systems Updates for this section: 26/08/05 Boom vang systems vary greatly. Please contact Allyacht Spars Australia to discuss your needs. B22.2 Rodkicks – Mechanical Spring Updates for this section: 26/08/05 Rodkicks, or mechanical boom vang struts, are an advance on the standard boom vang in that they will prevent the boom from dropping to the deck, making it much easier and safer to reef the mainsail and to drop the mainsail, with there being no need to use the boom topping lift. This provides great advantages for both racing and cruising yachts alike. The Rodkick is spring-loaded (providing the upward-support) with provision for a purchase system to be added to perform the function of a conventional boom vang (must be ordered separately). Rodkicks are made of anodised aluminium, with nylon bushes to allow smooth operation and to prevent wear.

B22.3 Rodkicks – Gas Spring Updates for this section: 26/08/05 The ultimate solution to Rodkicks is a Seldén Gas-spring Rodkicker. The gas-spring serves to neutralize the weight of the boom, so that support is provided whilst still allowing the boom to be lifted or lowered to whatever height is required. This enables the Boom Topping Lift to be done away with altogether. For details, refer to the Seldén catalogue, available at www.seldenmast.com or contact an Allyacht Spars Australia representative.

Section B23 Mast Climbing Steps Updates for this section: 26/08/05 Mast climbing steps allow easier access to the mast when working aloft. However for safety reasons, a spare mast halyard and bosun's chair should still be used with a deckhand maintaining halyard tension. The recommended layout of Mast Climbing Steps is for the first step to be 0.5m above the boom or mast winch, then to alternate steps from side to side at equal intervals of maximum 0.5m. The pattern of step placement depends on the location of fittings such as rigging attachments, and needs to be determined carefully beforehand. As a result, the interval may vary according to the step pattern that best fits the mast. The highest steps should be a pair, one on either side of the mast to facilitate working at the masthead, and should be not less than one metre from the masthead. B23.1 Mast Climbing Steps - Fixed Updates for this section: 26/08/05; 01/02/06 Fixed Mast Climbing Steps are made from 25mm x 6mm alloy flat bar with rounded edges to reduce abrasion, anodised for corrosion resistance.

B24.2 Lo-Stak Batten Slides Updates for this section: 01/09/05 Lo-Stak Batten Slides are a means of connecting a fully-battened mainsail luff to the mast – a cost-effective alternative to RCB systems. They have been designed to suit the integral sail tracks on Allyacht Spars mast sections, either the internal boltrope track or the external RCB track. Made from high-grade lubricated nylon, they slide very easily on the anodised mast surface, and having a low vertical profile, will enable the mainsail to be stacked to a minimal height on the mast when lowered. The connection to the mainsail luff utilises a stainless steel pin within a PVC insert, designed to accept a double thickness standard 25mm webbing strap. PART NO. SUIT TRACK TYPE SUIT MAST

Section B25 Mast Mount Turning Collars B25.1 Mast-Mount Turning Collar Updates for this section: 27/10/05; 14/12/05 Halyards and other control lines on the mast and boom are often led from the mast back to the cockpit. Usually such lines are led through turning blocks mounted at deck level on the Deck Plate or Deck Collar, however there is sometimes the need to turn a line above deck level, such as when the deck rises behind the mast. The Mast Mount Turning Block enables this, being a turning block with a mounting that fits on to the mast at the appropriate level. DESCRIPTION PART NO.

Section B26 Miscellaneous Components B26.1 Highfield Levers Updates for this section: 07/09/05 The most common application for highfield levers is on an inner forestay, enabling the inner forestay to be easily connected or disconnected. This is useful on a cutter rig, enabling the inner forestay to be released and stowed against the mast when gybing the spinnaker pole, then reconnected and tensioned. Similarly on a boat on which a staysail set on an inner forestay is used only temporarily, such as when heavily reefed, a highfield lever on the inner forestay simplifies the setup process. The double action highfield lever is suitable for a wire range of 5.5 to 9.5mm. The lever is self-locking, however it is recommended that it also be fixed back with rings, lashing or even a leather or tubular hood (not supplied). A single action highfield lever is also available. Note: A rigging screw is not supplied as part of the highfield lever.

RIG INSPECTION CHECKLIST

WARNING: NEVER GO ALOFT ON THE HARD STAND! MASTHEAD: 1. Check all welds for cracks. 2. Check Masthead gear for secure attachment. 3. Check all pins and pinholes for fatigue. 4. Ensure the sheaves run freely and the pins that hold them are secure. 5. Check for sharp edges where halyards exit and peter out if necessary. 6. Check that all screws and bolts are tight. If not, unfasten and replace with new fasteners coated with an anti-seize material. 7. Check forestay and backstay for cracks and/or discolouring of the swages. 8. Check for any corrosion. RIGGING: 1. Check swages for cracks and/or discolouring. 2. Check tangs or T-ball backing plates for fatigue. 3. Check clevis pins and split pins for fatigue. 4. Check that the tang bolt is secure. 5. Check for any corrosion. SPREADERS, JUMPERS AND DIAMONDS: 1. Check swages for cracks and/or discolouring. 2. Check spreaders ensuring that the sockets/base are secure. 3. Cover or smooth over any sharp edges. 4. Remove spreader guards, if any, and check that spreader tips and stays are secure. 5. Replace the spreader covers, as old leather covers may dirty the sails. 6. Check for any corrosion. DECK LEVEL: 1. Check the gooseneck for signs of fatigue (worn pins, loose nuts, cracks). 2. Check halyards and especially splices for wear. Check all shackles for proper operation and use a Teflon lubricant if required. 3. Check all stays and their deck fittings for cracks, discolouration and fatigue. 3. Check all rigging screws and lubricate. Note that rigging screws should be lubricated at least every three months. 4. Check lifelines for wear around and through the foundations. 5. Check the Mast Base for signs of stress, and that the Heel Plug is sitting properly in position. If the mast is keel stepped, check partners and blocking for signs of undue stress. 6. Check the chain plates for stress or cracks, both above and below the deck and at their point of attachment. Note: This is only a simplified list, it is important to remember that if in doubt about anything, contact your local rigger or Allyacht Spars Australia. Maintenance can solve most problems before they become serious.
