“Good nutrition is important for cancer patients.”

Ally Gottfried, MFN, RD, LD

Nutrition therapy is used to ensure patientsare geing the nutrients they need to maintain their body weight and strength, and to keep body tissue healthy to fightinfection.

Nutritional assessment should begin as soon afterdiagnosis as possible, taking into considerationtreatment goals, current nutritional status and anticipated nutrition-related symptoms.

Cancer and treatment may make it difficult to eat well.

It is important that cancer symptoms and side effects that affect eating and cause weight loss

are treated early.
