• Nemetschek AG is a company which produces CAD/CEIESoftwares featuring Allplan, Vectorwork, Archicad, andScia engineering, Nemetschek also purchased Maxon, theproducer of Cinema 4D, and Grapisoft, the producer forArchi-Cad

• Founded in 1963 by Prof. Georg Nemetschek withheadquarter in Munich, Germany

• Allplan, has several modules including basic, draftingmodule, an architectural module, module for city planning, siteplanning, digital terrain modeling, and module forbuilding information and cost management

• All-Plan BIM, starting in 2008• BIM unknown in US but very popular in Europe• The company portfolio’s includes solution for the complete

life cycle of buildings on real estate from building designthrough facility management

• All-Plan, includes - Allplan Architecture - Allplan Engineering - Allplan Building services - Allplan BCM (buiding cost management) - Allplan IBD ( intelegent building data) - Including Cinema 4D

Pros

• Extensive and powerfulbuilding modeling tools

• Full capabilities for solid andsurface modeling

• Can be integrated with design 2cost application

• Multi disciplinary capabilitywithin the same application

• Easy collaboration, strongsupport for PDF and IFCformats

Cons

• Project set up with newbuilding structure iscomplicated and not intuitive

• Requiring user to keepswitching drawing files tomodel different levels andgenerate elevations, sections, and schedules

• Poor quality of documentationmaking it difficult to pick up hebasic concepts of applicationwithout a lot of effort.

Overview of Allplan BIM Architecture The core functionality of Allplan BIM Architecture is similar to other

BIM applications for architecture design, create a building model usingintelligent parametric components and then we can generate all otherdeliverables from it, drawings, rendering, animations, schedule and soon

Page 8: allplan BIM

• The range of tools for creatingdifferent level of buildingcomponents is extensive

Page 9: allplan BIM

• The façade modeler interface, showing the parameters that wereset for the façade design

Page 10: allplan BIM

• Area schedule and space planninggenerated from the model

Page 11: allplan BIM

• Free shape form model that thestandard IBM can’t create, able togenerate in allplan

• Site plan design, terrain modeling, landscaping with ability for slopecalculation

Page 12: allplan BIM

• Nemetschek is also a strongadvocate of the IAI’s IFC openstandard format with can allowdifferent discipline articles.

Organization of a Project in Allplan

• Need to be understood before be able towork with it, how the data is structured

• A folder containing a large number ofsub-folder and files rather than a singlefile

• Project could only grouped togetherinto a organizational unit called “ fileset”, a file set could have up to 128drawings

• Modeling is done storey by storey -plan manager

• Each level in building structure canhave multiple drawings files associatedwith it

ConclusionPositives

• The BIM capabilities is nicelyorganized in tool palettescategorized by function model

• Allow accurate determination ofbuilding quantities and cost withoutthe need to re-create the model forconstruction in another application

• Multi disciplinary capability withinthe same application

Negatives

• Lack of associatively, managingall the diverse files containingdifferent parts of the model
