Allied Health Programs: Cardiovascular Technology Program (Cardiovascular Technology (CVT)) The cardiovascular technologist performs diagnostic examinations and therapeutic interventions of the heart and/or blood vessels under the request or direction of a physician in the following: - Invasive- Cardiac catheterization - Noninvasive: Echocardiography, electrocardiography (ECG), Cardiovascular Technologists are trained professionals that evaluate and assist in treating patients (pediatrics and adults) with medical illness of the heart and blood circulation. The technologist, while working with cardiologist and nurses in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, uses medical equipment such as blood pressure recording equipment, cardiac catheters, and pacemaker. The team performs the catheterization study using x-rays while wearing a lead apron for several hours. Therefore, this practice necessitates a technologist to be in a good health and with high physical stamina. A technologist conducts noninvasive procedures related to diagnosis of heart diseases. For example, in cardiac stress testing, a technologists guides patients to perform physical exercises (walking on a treadmill) while recording the electrical activity of the heart. In addition, a technologist may use Holter monitors to reord the electrical activity of the heart. Program Description: King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center offers a 3-year CVT program that will provide the technical skills and competencies in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to cardiac procedures. Moreover, the program prepares the trainees to pass the American cardiovascular board’s exam. Facilities: King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre is rich with high a qualified staff who teaches the courses which empower the program. King Faisal Heart Center contains the most advanced diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular equipment. A trainee of the CVT program will: - actively participate in procedures and treatment modalities using CVT equipment - be trained by highly trained and expert staff Goal: To graduate highly skilled Saudi cardiovascular technologists Class Size: Between 8-12 students Accreditation: The program is accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) Curriculum: The program constitutes of theoretical bases that are taught in a classroom setting followed by a practical application of the cardiovascular test procedures
