EDITORIALChers étudiants, Chers amis,
Grande manifestation populaire gratuite et ouverte à tous les musiciens, la Fête de la musique sera organisée cette année à Makumbusho Village. Elle célèbrera comme chaque année la musique vivante et mettra en valeur l’ampleur et la diversité des pratiques musicales ainsi que différents genres musicaux. Une programmation 2015 éclectique qui vous sera dévoilée très prochainement.L’Alliance française et le Goethe-Institut organisent – en collaboration avec Nafasi Art Space – un atelier à l’attention des illustrateurs professionnels tanzaniens, animé par l’illustratrice française Stéphanie Ledoux et son homologue germano-équatorien Omar Jaramillo. Les objectifs : Explorer différentes facettes de l’illustration, partager de nouvelles techniques et faciliter le dialogue entre artistes.A la suite de cet atelier aura lieu l’exposition des œuvres personnelles de la talentueuse Stéphanie Ledoux. Un évènement à ne pas manquer !Une soirée spéciale sera organisée à l’occasion de la diffusion du film dramatique à succès d’ Abderrahmane Sissako, Timbuktu, récompensé par sept Césars en 2015 et nominé aux Oscars dans la catégorie meilleur film étranger. « La Véranda », premier Bar à Tapas de Dar es Salaam, vient d’ouvrir ses portes à l’Alliance française. Le menu offre un choix de 40 assiettes parfaitement élaborées et à partager ! A big, free and popular event open to all musicians, World Music Day will be held at Makumbusho Village this year. It will celebrate, as every year, lively music, and will emphasize the scale and diversity of musical practice, as well as different musical genres. An eclectic 2015 programme will be announced shortly.Alliance française and Goethe-Institut are organising – in collaboration with Nafasi Art Space - a workshop facilitated by French illustrator Stéphanie Ledoux and German-Ecuadorian artist Omar Jaramillo, for professional Tanzanian illustrators who want to discover the potential of illustration, share new techniques and identify new possibilities in the field.Following the workshop, the talented Stéphanie Ledoux will exhibit her own work inside our exhibition hall. Chante ton bac d’abord tells the story of a turbulent group of friends going to Mariette High School in Boulogne-sur-Mer, a town roughly affected by the economic recession. Imagined and written by these teenagers from the working class or the middle class, their songs make reality plunge into poetry, laughter and emotion.

Haji Chilonga was born in 1969 at Masasi District in Mtwara Region which is located southern parts of Tanzania, he comes from the family tree of blacksmiths paternal side and potters maternal side.
When it comes to Chilonga’s paintings, actually they really talk about life situation that people are being faced with every day in their life. He just uses paints as part of expressing his feelings. Chilonga’s paintings have been selected and displayed at State House and President’s House of Tanzania.
Chilonga also has done 14th Solo Art Exhibition and has exhibited his artworks Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa, Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. So your pleased join him his 15th Solo Art Exhibition on May 2015 at Alliance Francaise.

New sounds and perfumes from Africa

Born in Italy in 1967, Italian pianist and composer Silvia Belfiore graduated from the “Vivaldi” Conservatory in 1989 and in 1991 she received her degree in musicology from the University of Bologna. She participated in the “Phenomenology of Music” with Sergiu Celibidache, “Musical Analysis for Pianists” with Piero Rattalino and in the famous “Ferienkurse für neue Musik” in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1986, 1990 and 1992. She has also received various awards for her artistic achievements including “Laboratorio Lirico” for contemporary music by the Teatro Alessandria. Currently a member of the faculty of the Pavia Conservatory of Music and Director of the International music festival of Aqui Terme. Silvia Belfiore has given more than 470 concerts, her foremost interest is African music and its composers such as Kwabena Nketia and Euba from Ghana and Grové from S. Africa. 2012 CD titled ”Omaggio all’Africa” dedicated to musics of Grové, Onovwerosuoke, Cage, Rahim. Nketia, Uzoigwe. Currently a musical consultant for the Federation Africaine de Musique Chorale (Lomè-Togo)

When her marriage falls apart, Agnes Le Roux moves back to the South of France from Africa to live with her mother in Nice. There, Agnes falls in love with Maurice Agnelet, a lawyer and Renee’s business advisor, who is ten years her senior. Maurice continues to have relationships with other women. Agnes is madly in love with him. As a shareholder in the Palais de la Mediterannee casino, Agnes decides to sell what should have been her inheritance to go it alone. Someone is trying to intimidate her mother, the owner of a rival casino, who wants to take over the Palais de la Mediterannee. In November 1977, after a failed suicide attempt, Agnes disappears. Her body is never found. Thirty years on, Maurice Agnelet remains the prime suspect in a murder case with no body and no proof of his guilt. Convinced of his involvement, Renee is prepared to fight to the bitter end to see him put behind bars...

During the last decades, a Tanzanian tradition of illustration developed that is now visible in various publications, newspapers, school books and advertisement. But educational opportunities for illustrators are rare. The workshop, facilitated by the French illustrator Stéphanie Ledoux and the German-Ecuadorian artist Omar Jaramillo, addresses twenty professional Tanzanian illustrators who want to discover the potential of illustration. Stimulating new techniques and pointing out new possibilities of this field will be the focus of the workshop.

The Dj of the month: Al-Amin Kheraj
Al-Amin Kheraj, alias DJ Ace, Piratefunk and most recently Solarvibe, has DJ'ed for over 10 years. Initially spinning at one of Dar's first nightclubs, California Dreamers, as an apprentice of the senior DJ Ommy in 2003, Solarvibe has since played at university radio stations, events and venues in Lehigh Valley, New York City, Dijon and London. His primary influence has been the ever-dynamic evolution of electronic music since the 90's, from UK dance to deep house. Solarvibe is currently building a residency at Oasis in Masaki, Dar-es-Salaam.

Stéphanie Ledoux has travelled widely, her portraits, with their direct regard, go straight to the heart of her subjects. While drawing, she likes to interview her models and have them talk about their traditions, lives and aspirations. She has filled dozens of travel sketchbooks she keeps for herself, and she exhibits her studio work in Paris, London, Sana'a (Yemen), Yangon (Burma).She has published "Portraits de voyage" (portraits from Burma, Madagascar, Vanuatu and Yemen) and "Enfant d'éléphants" (an insight into the story of an Indian woman working with elephants) in France.She travels extensively, covering Ethiopia, Namibia, Kenya, Indonesia, China, Burma, Madagascar... and is currently working on a book about the portraits she has taken in Africa.

Timbuktu is silent, the doors closed, the streets empty. No more music, no tea, no cigarettes, no bright colors, no laughs. The women have become shadows. The religious fundamentalists are spreading terror in the region. In the dunes, away from the chaos, Kidane enjoys a quiet life with his wife Satima, his daughter Toya and Issan, his little shepherd. But his peace is short-lived. After accidentally killing Amadou, a fisherman who stroke down his favorite cow, Kidane must face the law of the new foreign rulers determined to defeat an open and tolerant Islam. Against the humiliations and acts of brutality performed by these complex men, Timbuktu tells the story of the silent struggle of the people, the fight for life of little Issan, and the uncertain future of the children.

Henri is a young actor who dreams of playing in Fast & Furious but who finds himself cast in a movie by the legendary independent filmmaker Cédric Rovère. Even if the conditions during the shoot aren’t quite what Henri expected, he is won over by the charms of his on-screen partner and the generosity of the master filmmaker, and emerges transformed by the experience. Rovère is also won over by Henri’s eager imagination and youthful spirit, and views the film shoot as an unexpected gift.
