Founded in 1944 by a like-minded group of French language enthusiasts in Cruise’s Hotel, Alliance française de Limerick is the oldest Alliance française in Ireland. Alliance française de Limerick is specialized in teaching French to non-French speaking students and participates in the organization of cultural events.
At Alliance française de Limerick, the objective is to improve or develop skills in French language and culture. Maybe you want to be more comfortable on holiday in France, maybe you want to progress in your job, you may want to acquire a world-wide recognised language qualification or maybe its pour la plaisir, whatever your reason for learning French, we offer a range of courses to suit you!
Our Teachers
All of our teachers are native French speakers, qualified and experienced at teaching French as a foreign language. Their area of expertise covers all levels and are aimed at meeting every need: general French, conversational, exam preparation, one to one and business classes.
Our Courses
Alliance française de Limerick proposes a large range of classes and workshops from beginner to advanced level or tailor made on-demand class. Our academic year runs from September to May and has 3 semesters. The next session for group classes will start on Monday 12th of September 2016.
Certifications
Alliance française de Limerick is an official examination centre for the DELF/DALF and DELFJunior.DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official qualifications awarded by CIEP and French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside France in the French language. DELF & DALF are composed of 6 independent diplomas that correspond to the levels of Common European Framework for Languages.

Membership
Membership is open to everybody, students and non-students alike. Every student enrolling becomes a member of Alliance Française de Limerick for a nominal fee of €2 annually. We are also delighted to welcome non-students for an annual fee of €10 and all members can enjoy the benefits attached (loans from our media library resources, members-only events, reduced ticket prices for our cultural events etc.).
Book Club
All members are invited to join the book club. The club meets once a month in an informal setting to discuss the book through French or English. The titles vary from classics to modern fiction and non-fiction. From time to time guest speakers come to discuss their books.
Film.
Alliance francaise de Limerick is proud to be the Irish centre for the Tres court International Film Festival. The festival takes place in Limerick in May and is a showcase for short films from around the world.
In addition we have access to the Institute Francais’ catalogue which offers over 3,500 films in different formats.
Cuisine.
Learn to cook a la francaise! Our highly successful cookery workshops take place regularly in a local French restaurant. You cook with a French chef and then enjoy your dish with a glass of wine.
Social Gatherings.
We hold many French themed evenings throughout the year from themed lectures to wine tasting. We celebrate the French National day on the 14th. July
A1 - Starter LevelIt is the most elementary level for the use of French language. You will be able to make simple interactions: you will be able to talk about yourself and about your direct environment.
GOALS: In this class, you will learn the basics of French language: present yourself, present someone, ask questions, count, order at the restaurant, describe your city, give the time. At the end of the course, you will be ready for a week-end in France. You will speak about food, doing groceries, going to the cinema, to the theatre, speak about what you are doing, talking about a memory. You will be ready to progress to Elementary Level.

A1 - Elementary LevelYou will be able to realize every-day life tasks. You will use the most used politeness and exchange formulas to express yourself on simple topics.

B1 - Intermediate LevelAt B1 level, you will have completed A1 and A2 or you have school French and you want to get back to competency. You should be able to express yourself comfortably in casual situations.
As you progress in this class, you will become independent. You will be able to continue a converstion: you will be able to understand and participate actively in a discussion, give your advice and opinion. You will be able to manage unexpected situations of the every-day life.

B2 - Upper Intermediate LevelAt this stage you have a level of fluency, you can progress to B2 level having completed B1 or having studied and practiced French recently.
Here you will build on your independence allowing you to argue, to defend your opinion, develop a point of view and negotiate. You will be at ease in social discourses and will be able to correct your own mistakes.
C1 - Advanced LevelYou will have an in-depth knowledge of French, having completed B2 or another recognised qualification (LC Honours) you can express yourself with ease.
At one of our C1 classes you will expand your vocabulary, learn new expressions and gain competence in formal and informal situations..
C2 - Expert LevelYou are now perfecting your fluency. You may want to improve your business French or prepare for the C2 DALF exam. At this level we recommend private tuition to correct any small pronunciation or writing “habits”.
You can choose from any of our ten native French teachers, each one has a range of experience in working with learners at this level.

Specialised Workshops and ClassesPrivate and semi-private classesDo you want to learn by yourself or with one or two friends? Our private and semi-private classes are a very popular way of fast tracking your way to success. You can choose a time that suits your schedule and we will tailor make a program for you.
DELF/DALF Preparation ClassesWe offer DELF preparation classes throughout the year, before exam sittings.These classes run for 4 weeks with a minimum of 8 students. They can be taken as a complement to your classes or to discover the language. It is not based on understanding. No material required or otherwise provided by the teacher.
Business FrenchBusiness French is aimed at students who need to quickly master some French Language in a Business environment. This class is suitable for varying levels who need French in the workplace. This class is tailor made around the specific needs of your business. It is a fast paced course using “Objectif Express book and exercise book”. The focus of this course is on Oral Comprehension and Expression.
Corporate classesWe have an extensive network of corporate clients in the region. We provide in house language classes and exam preperation. We can fit around your work schedule, providing lunchtime classes if required.
FLAMFLAM program The FLAM programme (Français LAngue Maternelle) was set up by the French government in 2001 for families living abroad. It enables French speaking children aged 4 to 16 years to practice the French language and to keep in contact with French culture. The FLAM programme is designed to enable those children whose parents are resident in the mid-West of Ireland and who are being educated in local English-speaking schools, to practice French as an extra-curricular activity. Aromatherapy (advanced)Learn aromatherapy through French ! A fascinating insight into the plants and essential oils. Take one hour per week to relax and unwind, while learning at the same time.
Teen and Childrens ClassesWe offer a range of after school and weekend classes for teenagers. Our classes run in tandem with the secondary school curriculum and we offer specialised preparation classes for the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams.
Our students also have the opportunity to prepare for and sit the DELF Junior exams. The junior version of DELF has the same basic structure as the standard DELF. (cf website)
Private Teenage Classes.Our teachers offer a flexible schedule of private classes for teenagers. If a specific area needs more attention, private classes offer a fast track route to success. Please call us to discuss your preferences.
Revision Camps.We run revision classes for both Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students. Our summer and Easter camps focus on all areas of the curriculum, we also run specific classes for oral exam preparation.

Terms & Conditions
Payment must be received in full before attending classes; a course place is not confirmed until payment is received. Alliance Française de Limerick does not accept payment by instalments. Alliance Française de Limerick does not accept responsibility for changes in student circumstances that may prevent them from attending their course. Fees cannot be refunded but may be held in credit for a future course if you withdraw after a course has started. There will be no partial refund for classes not attended by the students for whatever reason. However, you may only cancel if notices is given in writing no later than one day before the course starts. The class fee will then be refunded minus a €40 administrative fee. In exceptional cases of hardship, requests for refunds may be made to the Board of Directors in writing accompanied by supporting documents. The Alliance Française de Limerick may cancel a course before it starts when there are insufficient numbers student numbers. In that case only, fees will be refunded in full. If the Alliance Française de Limerick has to cancel a course after it has started due to circumstances beyond its control then fees will then be refunded pro rata. You may only postpone taking a course if notice is given in writing no later than one day before the course starts. A €40 administrative fee will apply. No credit or refund will be given on or after the day a course has started. Private Classes must be paid in advance. In the care of cancellation, we request notice of 24 hours. Failure to give reasonable notice to the teacher will result in forfeit of the class fee. The Alliance Française de Limerick reserve the right to refuse admission.
