Center from a winter fall near his Back Bayhome in Boston. He says, “I visited AllertonHouse and it looked wonderful.”

Dan felt welcome from day one, saying, “I was invited to join the Village Voices choral group, which is currently rehearsing for a spring concert.”

In the summer, Dan directed a newmen’s chorus at the community, noting, “Developing the programwas a group process and a lot of fun.”

Recognizing how important a warmwelcome was to him, Dan now volunteers to welcome and assistAllerton House newcomers. He isalso a skilled bridge player who playstwo or three times a week. Committedto maintaining his strength, he is aregular at the community’s fitnesscenter, too. “I’m really enjoying beinghere,” says Dan. “And I won’t missthe slippery sidewalks this winter.”

He is an avid newspaper reader who moved toAllerton House Assisted Living Community at Proprietors Green inMarshfield last year. In addition to staying current with breaking news,local developments, world events, and weather forecasts by combingthrough the papers each day, Joe appreciates the fact that everything hewants is readily available at Village at Proprietors Green.

“Anytime I need something, the staff goes out of their way to get it,” hesays. “And there is always an opportunity to meet people.” Living in closeproximity to his daughter in Duxbury is another plus for Joe, who notes,“She is a good daughter, a good manager, and a good friend.”

Maura Cahill moved to Allerton House at HancockPark in Quincy in 2014. “It’svery convenient here,” shesays. “I can come and go as Iplease.” In Maura’s case, she isoften on the go, enjoying thecommunity’s musical entertainment programs andparticipating in a variety ofother offerings. She notes, “Iexercise every morning, andenjoy the trivia and quiz-typeactivities. We keep busy here.”

Thanks to the convenience of the community’samenities and services, Maura has the time to takein her favorite activities. She says, “I have no cooking to do, no washing to do, and I always havehelp when I need it.” She also has lots of companywith her children, 25 grandchildren, and severalgreat-grandchildren living nearby. “They all live onthe South Shore,” says Maura. “They know they arewelcome to visit anytime.”

Bob Hannan got a new lease on life following hipreplacement surgery last December. He had completed rehabilitation at Harbor House Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Hingham, butdelayed returning to his Hyde Park home to avoidthe hassles of inclement winter weather by staying atAllerton House in Hingham short term.

“I remember seeing eight-foot snow banks outsidemy window,” says Bob. The assisted living community's close proximity to his son in NorthWeymouth, along with all of its programs andamenities, convinced Bob to make his short staypermanent. A firm believer that being physically active helps you stay well, he participates in exerciseclasses twice a week, and enjoys the outdoor walkingpath. “What you have to resist here is the food,” hejokes. “The desserts, ice cream, and cake carts arevery enticing.”
