Summer Arts Festival Classes for Kids
Many Allegany County young people enjoyed working on art
projects at the annual AAA Summer Arts Festival during July
and August 2017.
From Canaseraga to Angelica to Belmont to Bolivar to Friend-
ship and Scio and over to Whitesville, kids spent summer hours
having fun & learning. Visiting expert Sean Duran of Flower
City Arts in Rochester spent two days at Angelica Ink teaching
paper making, while Mary Warner, Angelica Ink owner, taught
print making. Wendy Skinner of the Fountain Arts Center pre-
sented classes including string art, dioramas, plein air art, compo-
sition and quilling. Additional groups included jewelry making
with Elaine Hardman, pottery with Marsha VanVlack and several
classes with Alice Deres and other local artist/teachers.
“I learned a lot!”, “I enjoyed the class and hope to come
again.” were student comments. Using new tools, designing and
creating their own objects brought them real pleasure Plans for
SAF 2018 are in the works. Contact Administrator Molly Pike
([email protected]) to apply for teaching in 2018.
Partial funding for SAF comes from the NYS Council on the
Arts Decentralization Re-grant Program with support from Gov.
Mario Cuomo and the NYS Legislature administered by the Cat-
taraugus County Arts Council; and from local AAA members
and corporate donors. THANK YOU!
