The All Year Figure Skating Club celebrated its 75 th anniversary on January 17, 2014 with a Diamond Jubilee Gala at the Downtown on Ice rink at Pershing Square in Los Angeles. Formed in 1939, All Year FSC has hosted many prominent competitions, including the 2002 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the annual Golden West Championships. Its members have won national titles and competed at the Olympics, World Championships and other major international competitions. The club sent 33 skaters to the 2014 Prudential U.S. Championships, where they won nine medals, including a silver medal by Olympic ice dancer Madison Chock. Parents, skaters, officials and friends joined to commemorate decades of figure skating in Southern California. The fourth largest U.S. club with more than 500 members, All Year supports all levels of skaters, from beginners to elite competitors. Club president Janis Engel welcomed attendees and Doug Williams served as emcee for the evening’s skating show. Williams recognized special guests, including club firsts: 1970 U.S. junior champion, Richard Ewell, 1992 Olympian Scott Wendland, and Rena Inoue and John Baldwin, who performed the first throw triple Axel at the 2006 Olympics. Other honorees included Naomi Nari Nam, Carol Hunt and Danielle Kahle. Guests were treated to a star studded skating show featuring many of today’s top skaters as well as various greats of the past. Trifun Zivanovic proved he can still do a triple toe loop. The pairs team of Sharon Carz and Williams reunited for a performance. This wonderful team represented the United States at world and international competitions 23 years ago, Baldwin thanked Williams for the club’s support throughout his career. Coach Crystalrose Guerra’s award winning Theater on Ice group closed the show with an energetic performance to “The Addams Family”. Richard Dornbush and Phillip Warren performed side-by-side back flips during one of the curtain calls. All Year FSC's 75th Diamond Jubilee Gala was most certainly a night to remember! “I have been honored to be the president and part of this great club with wonderful volunteers and a board of directors that passionately care about what we do”, Engel reflected. “It’s truly a special evening.” www.AllYearFSC.com Performances included: Richard Dornbush, 2011 U.S. Championships Senior Men Silver Medalist, 2010-11 Junior Grand Prix Champion Courtney Hicks, 2011 U.S. Championships Junior Ladies National Champion Leah Keiser, 2010 Novice Ladies National Champion, 2008 Juvenile National Champion Vanessa Lam, 2014 U.S. Championships Senior Ladies competitor Caroline Zhang, 2007 World Junior Champion, 2007, U.S. junior silver medalist, 2006, Junior Grand Prix Final champion Vincent Zhou, Senior Men competitor Tyler Pierce, 2014 U.S. Championships Junior Ladies Silver Medalist Elizabeth Nguyen, 2014 U.S. Championships Junior Ladies competitor Ai Setoyama and David Botero, 2014 U.S. Championships Novice Pairs National Champions Starr Andrews, 2014 U.S. Championships Juvenile Girls Pewter Medalist Trifun Zivanovic, Olympic & World competitor, 6-timeNational Champion (Serbia, Serbia & Monetnegro, Yugoslavia) Sharon Carz and Doug Williams, World and national competitors Rena Inoue and John Baldwin, Olympic & World competitors, 2004 & 2006 National Champions, first team to land a throw triple Axel at the Olympic Winter Games (2006) Vendors: Willie Bietak Productions, Coronado Video, Classic Party Rentals, Monrose Catering, Rolf Juario Photography All Year FSC Celebrates 75 Years of Skating in Southern California!

Condolences on the Passing of Laurie Williams !It is with great sadness that the club has to share with you the passing of Laurie Williams, mother of board member Doug Williams. Laurie lost her battle with lung cancer on Tuesday May 13, 2014. She lived in Playa del Rey most of her life, where she was an avid gardener and supported the Wetlands restoration and preservation, and maintaining a healthy garden for all her invertebrate friends. In her final days, she was receiving very special care and assistance from Pacific Hospice Care. !As many of you know, Doug was an active competitor in the sport of figure skating. Based on the above, the family asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, you please make a donation to one of the following organizations in her memory. Doug and his family greatly appreciate everyone’s love, support and concern. !Friends of Ballona Wetlands – Please mail donations, along with a note “In Memory of Laurie Williams” to: P.O. Logan Giulietti-Schmitt announce retirement from

competition

Kriengkrairut, Giulietti-Schmitt announce retirement Veteran ice dancers to continue skating in shows, get advanced degrees !

4/24/14 by Sarah S. Brannen, special to icenetwork !After eight years together, veteran ice dancers Lynn Kriengkrairut and Logan Giulietti-Schmitt have announced their retirement from competition. !"As much as Lynn and I love skating, and probably would continue on as long as we could go, there are a lot of things we want to pursue outside of skating," Giulietti-Schmitt said. "We decided that since we gave it our all for the Olympic year, that ultimately some of our priorities have shifted." !Kriengkrairut is applying to medical school and hopes to enroll in the fall. !"I'm interested in neurology, orthopedic surgery or reconstructive surgery, but a lot could change once I go to school," she said. !Giulietti-Schmitt has been the Basic Skills director at the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club, and plans to continue coaching. He also wants to go to graduate school and hopes to study environmental remediation or urban planning. (He has a bachelor's degree in geology from Eastern Michigan University.) !Kriengkrairut and Giulietti-Schmitt's best showing at the U.S. championships was a fourth-place finish in 2012. They are the 2007 U.S. junior bronze medalists and twice won the Ice Challenge in Graz, Austria. They competed four times in the Grand Prix Series, and finished sixth at the 2014 Four Continents Championships. !After training with Yasa Nechaeva and Yuri Chesnichenko for seven years, the team began working with Igor Shpilband in February 2013. !"This year, with the change that we made, we wanted to give it the best shot that we could going into the Olympic season," Giulietti-Schmitt said. "We really learned a lot in our new training environment. At the end of the year, we sat down and talked about things, and assessed what we wanted to do moving forward. "Obviously, a lot is going to change next year; a lot of teams are retiring. It's something we've debated for a long time, but we're getting older and we have a lot of interests outside the skating community." !The popular and well-respected team enjoyed enthusiastic fan support for its supple, lyrical skating and unique lifts. Their free dances to Adele and Jeff Beck were audience favorites. They are planning to skate in some shows in the coming months, starting with the American Ice Theater's "Let's Dance" show May 31 in Chicago. !In a statement, Kriengkrairut and Giulietti-Schmitt thanked their families for their support and sacrifices, as well as U.S. Figure Skating, the Memorial Fund and the US Athletic Foundation. They also expressed gratitude to all their coaches as well as their trainer, dance instructors and sports psychologist, and they included a word to their fans. !"Thank you to the fans who have followed us and been committed to encouraging us as much as we have been committed to making something special for them to watch."
