Driver Safety TrainingYou must complete Driver Training to:

• be authorized to drive on college business,• to receive college motor pool privileges,

• to be authorized for mileage reimbursement, and• to participate in the separate High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) training

The following pages provide step-by-step instructions on how to successfully complete the Driver Safety Training.

Register for the course

Please note: you are no longer required to register for Driver Safety Training through

your MySLCC account. Please proceed to the next step.

Motor Pool Authorization FormIn order to receive credit for completing the Driver Training course, you must:

1. Fill out the Motor Pool Authorization Form and have a supervisor sign it. You are always able to access a blank form on the Driver Safety Programs webpage.

2. Submit the form with a legible copy of your driver license and your state risk Defensive Driver Training Certificate of Completion (printable from the Utah Learning Management Portal) via one of the following methods:

scan and email to [email protected]; mail via campus mail to mailstop: RISK; or deliver in person to AAB 211 P

Please note: Even if you are renewing your training, you MUST submit a NEW, COMPLETED Motor Pool Authorization Form. Your employee information, index code, supervisor, and driver license may have changed in the two years since you last completed. We are required to keep the most updated information on hand.

Utah Learning Portal

If you already have a Utah Learning Portal profile:

• input your username (institutional email) and password and click sign in; and

• skip to slide 8 for further instruction.

╳ If you DO NOT have a Utah Learning Portal profile:

• skip step one. The security keyword is provided on the next slide; and

• click the sign up button.

To start the process of completing the State Risk Defensive Driver Training course, follow the steps below CLOSELY.

Utah Learning Portal – New Registration

1. Input your first name and last nameas they appear on your driver license.

2. Input your institutional (college) email address e.x., @slcc.edu or @bruinmail.slcc.edu in the e-mail address field.╳ Do not use a personal email

address.3. Input slcc as the Security Keyword.4. Click Sign Up to complete your

registration.

To create a new profile, complete the required fields.Follow the steps below CLOSELY:

Utah Learning Portal – Getting Started

• Once signed in to the Utah Learning Portal, all current training that you need to take can be found on the home page.

• Click Defensive Driver Training at the left to begin the Defensive Driver Training course.

╳ Make certain to open the current session, not a previously completed session.

╳ The course may not be able to launch if pop-ups are blocked in your web browser. Use UPenn’s Configuring Your Web Browser to Allow Pop-up Windows resource if you are unsure of how to enable pop-ups for your web browser.

State Risk Defensive Driver Training

2. Take the 25 question multiple choice test. For additional information and assistance on the test, you may also review the Utah Driver Handbook.

3. When you have passed the test, click Continue.

4. Click continue then Submit and Exit to close out of the course test window and go back to your Utah Learning Portal homepage.

YOU ARE NOT DONE YET.Move on to the next slide.

1. Watch the videos and complete the activities.╳ The system will NOT ALLOW you to skip the videos and you

CANNOT take the test without watching all of the videos.

Printing your Certificate of Achievement

1. Click on Print Certificate in the bottom-left corner.

2. Turn in this certificate along with your Motor Pool Authorization Form to Risk Management.

Authorization & RenewalYou will be added to the College’s Authorized Drivers List and your training transcript will be updated to reflect the completion of your driver training once the Risk Management has received all of the necessary documentation:

Certificate of Achievement (printed from the Utah Learning Portal) Signed and COMPLETED Motor Pool Authorization Form

• legible copy of your driver license;• fill in all section, including the index code; and• include your office phone extension and your @slcc or @ bruinmail.slcc.edu email address. If you

don’t have an office extension, use your supervisor’s extension. CDL drivers may be required to provide copies of additional required driving documentation (e.g.,

medical card)

This process will take 2-5 business days from the time we receive your completed paperwork.

You may contact us at anytime to verify that we have received your paperwork or you may check to see that your training transcript has been updated. Instructions on how to view your Employee Training Transcript can be found on the Required Training Transcripts webpage.

Renew Driver Training every two years, following the step-by-step instructions.

High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Training

Please note: Driver Training and HOV Training are two separate trainings.

• If you wish to drive an HOV vehicle, you will need to complete BOTH trainings.

• In order to sign up for HOV training, you will need to become an Authorized Driver by completing Driver Training AND submitting all necessary paperwork to the Office of Risk Management.

• You will then need to contact the Motor Pool Office at [email protected] to schedule your HOV training.
