Tea at Five captures the fiery spirit of Katharine Hepburn in a one-woman show, recounting her journey from a well-heeled Yankee childhood to winner of four Oscars. Ensconced in her beloved home in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, we first see Ms. Hepburn in 1938, reflecting on the dizzying highs and emotional lows of her upbringing, having just been labeled “box office poison.” Fast-forward to 1983. Despite being injured in a car accident, the feisty redhead’s convalescence affords her with time to reminisce about her adventures in show business, including her heartbreaking romance with Spencer Tracy. Lombardo’s play unveils to audiences a previously unpainted portrait of one of the great legends of the silver screen that is intuitive, provocative, and at times, downright funny.

Hollywood has gone “South” in this funny, fast-paced comedy set against the backdrop of the 1939 screen classic, Gone With The Wind. Movie mogul David O. Selznick has just shut down production on his epic film and locked himself in his office with screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming to rewrite the script. Why? Because there is no script and shooting begins in a week! This hilarious and fascinating behind-the-scenes story of cinematic history comes to life as the three creative forces clash and compromise for five days straight, wrestling over every detail, from the shape of the plantation pillars to Rhett Butler’s famous final words to Scarlett O’Hara — all on a diet of peanuts and bananas. Who knew these three film industry icons would come out of seclusion with a script that would evolve into one of the greatest films ever made? They sure didn’t.

Suddenly last summer, Sebastian, the son of wealthy Violet Venable, died. Mother and son had been inseparable until that summer, when Sebastian replaced his Mother with young, sensual cousin Catharine as his traveling companion. It was on Catharine’s watch that Sebastian died and she cannot forget how — and why — it happened. In a fierce attempt to keep the light of truth from exposing a mother’s illusions and losing her son yet again, Violet has summoned a young neurosurgeon to erase Catharine’s memory of what may well have been the shocking actuality of last summer. Playwright Tennessee Williams, Theatre’s great poet of impossible love, creates a powerful battle between reality and self-delusion in this rarely-seen stage gem.

One of Broadway’s most overlooked musical masterpieces, the romantic and achingly beautiful A Little Night Music deals with the universal subject of love in all its wondrous, humorous, and ironic forms. In turn-of-the-century Sweden, middle-aged Fredrik Egerman brings his 18-year-old bride Anne to a play starring his former mistress, Desirée. Soon, Fredrik and Desirée resume their romance, incurring the wrath of her current lover, a pompous Count. The situation culminates in a weekend at a country estate with the two couples in attendance, as well as Fredrik’s son (hopelessly in love with Anne), Desirée’s illegitimate daughter, the Count’s manic-depressive wife, and the Egerman’s lusty maid. And there, played out beneath the mysterious summer night, the characters’ love and desire reach a heartfelt climax. The breathtaking score by Broadway icon Stephen Sondheim features his most popular song, “Send in the Clowns.”

In this outrageously funny parody of Dickens’ Christmas classic, award-winning playwright Christopher Durang focuses on one of A Christmas Carol’s most insignificant characters — Bob Cratchit’s wife. Between her 21 children, her useless blob of a husband, and that whiney Tiny Tim, Mrs. Cratchit has had enough. One day she flips, takes to drink, and tries to throw herself off a bridge, but she’s “touched by an angel.” Sound familiar? Meanwhile, Ebenezer Scrooge gets his usual visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. But this time around it seems that something is wrong with the Ghosts’ mystic powers, putting Scrooge on a hilarious collision course with other Christmas classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life and The Gift of the Magi. In spite of all this mayhem, Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge is safe and fun for the whole family while taking on some of the holiday season’s most sacred cows.
