LPI, Inc.

The Baptism of our Lord

Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.

Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

El Bautismo del Señor

"After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened." What a treat to be in that crowd! Just imagine the experience of witnessing this manifestation of divinity! To SEE the Holy Spirit "in bodily form like a dove" and to hear the voice that "came from heaven" announcing Jesus' true identity. Don't we all long for this kind of miraculous clarity? Wouldn't it do wonders for our faith if we had such unmistakable certainty about who Jesus really is? It's easy to imagine that the first Christians had it easier than we do. They got to be with Jesus in person, and to witness the miracles that went along with his years on earth. Because of this, we can quickly forget the benefits we enjoy that they did not. We live on the other side of the Resurrection, for example. The first followers of Christ believed in him BEFORE he rose from the dead. We, on the other hand, have the confidence of knowing that this man literally conquered death. We also have two millennia of Christian witness through the saints to pull upon. The first Christians had no idea what this new religion would produce, how many people would embrace it, or how it would change the world for the better. We know that Christianity has been fruitful beyond measure. Today's Gospel informs us that it was only after they were baptized that the people witnessed the opening of heaven. Even Jesus himself was baptized before he heard this earthly confirmation of his heavenly origin. We who have been baptized, following the example of Christ, also have "access" to the voice of God. In the silence of our hearts, and through God's word in the Bible (another advantage we enjoy), heaven is "opened" for us as well. LPI, Inc.

Often people attend Mass at All Souls for several years, but never register. Registering here is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and to make a commitment to the life of All Souls Church.

Being a registered parishioner makes the process much easier when it is time for infant baptism, school or religious education registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor, and even funerals. A registered parishioner receives all parish mailings, too. Church law advises that territories or boundaries no longer limit parish registration. All Souls accepts anyone who wants to share in the life of the parish regardless of where they live. In order to register, you need to complete a registration card. These may be found in the narthex of the church or chapel, the parish office during the week or online at our parish website: www.allsoulssanford.org. Why not sign up today? We love our new parishioners!

allow Jesus to lead us, and to motivate us. Let us remain rooted in Him, let

us entrust our past, our future and our present to Him. With Christ Jesus,

we are never defeated, we have hope, for with Him all things are possible!

Flannery January 16, 2000 Father Leo Culliton January 18, 2000

Father Michael M. Reynolds January 23, 1972 Father James F. Edwards January 27, 2007

Prayer for our Deceased Priests

O God, you raised your servants, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving them the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in your own Holy Name. We beseech you to reward their faithfulness and to forget their faults, admitting them speedily into your holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of their labors. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sean Macher was a student at All Souls Catholic School who tragically passed away during his 8th grade year on 11/22/00. Sean wrote his autobiography as a class assignment, and in that autobiography he wrote that he would be a great baseball player and musician. But what he wanted most was to be remembered as a humanitarian. Sean lived his short life always thinking about others. He was an avid baseball player since the age of 5, sometimes playing on two teams at a time while playing sports at All Souls. Because of his love of

baseball and others, Sean’s classmates and the All Souls community decided to host an annual softball tournament in his memory. Over the past 14 years, the tournament has raised over $132,200! If you would like to be a sponsor on the commemorative t-shirt or register a softball team (8 team limit), please contact Cheri Macher in the school office at 407.322.7090. Sponsors who donate a minimum of $100 will be listed on the back of all t-shirts. T-shirts will be sold after masses the weekends of Jan 30-31 and Feb. 6-7. All proceeds from the tournament go to the “Sean Macher Memorial Scholarship” that is used for students in need at All Souls. This school year 8 students in need have been given assistance to attend All Souls Catholic School. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Cheri Macher at 407.322.7090. We appreciate your support.

MOMENT OF MERCY ~ JANUARY 2016 ~When we think about pilgrimages, we probably think about medieval people walking great distances to awe-inspiring churches. Yet, Pope Francis describes what is at the heart of pilgrimage and encourages us to each make one during this Jubilee of Mercy. He encourages each of us to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Door in our diocese (Our Lady Queen of the Universe, Orlando) some time during this Jubilee of Mercy. Being committed to the journey of pilgrimage helps us focus our attention on our spiritual journey and walk closer with God.

This week, the Sanctuary Light in our Church burns in loving memory of Rosy George as requested by her daughter. May she rest in eternal peace.
