Plan For The Future

• Support from teachers, guidance counsellors, career practitioners and school administration is always available and can provide useful insight and information.

Earning Credits• When a student passes a course (> 50%)

they earn credits. 3 credits for a quarter course, 5 credits for a semester course.

• If a student does not pass the course they do not earn the credits.

• Some courses are modular based and students can earn from 1 up to 3 or 5 credits depending on the modules they complete.

• 100 credits to graduate.10

Which courses should my child take?

• Each child is unique and entrance requirements vary greatly depending on the program.

• General guidelines:

• University

• English 30-1

• Academic Science and Math 30-1 for math and science areas.

• Math 30-2 generally accepted for study in humanities, arts, and many more areas.

• Technical School• High School Diploma.

Core Subjects• English Language Arts (ELA)

• Alberta High School Diploma: • English Language Arts 30-1 or 30-2 is required.

• The dash one (-1) stream (English 10-1, 20-1, 30-1) is considered more challenging and is often required for admittance into universities.

• The dash two (-2) stream (English 10-2, 20-2, 30-2) is required for admission into most programs.

• Alberta High School Diploma: • Social Studies 30-1 or 30-2 is required.

• Alberta High School Diploma: • Each student is required by Alberta Education to successfully

complete a Grade 11 level course Math 20-1, Math 20-2 or Math 20-3 in order to obtain an Alberta High School Diploma.

• However, a 30-level math course is required for most post-secondary programs.

• Students choosing Math 10C have two sequential options that follow: Math 20-1 or Math 20-2. These sequences are ideal for students considering post-secondary studies in most colleges and universities.

• Students choosing Math 10-3 follow the Math 20-3 and Math 30-3 course sequence through Grade 11 and Grade 12.

Tutorials

• All teachers offer tutorials before and after school. Tutorial schedules are posted around the school and they are also posted on our school website.

• Students are encouraged to take advantage of these times to seek additional personalized support.

The Learning Commons will be closed for the first 15 minutes of lunch each day.

After that students will be allowed into the learning commons

On Mondays, during Connect, students will register for Engage

sessions for the week. Connect teachers will help to guide

students to make good choices!

Dress Code

Philosophy: This is a place of learning and as such

we expect students to dress

appropriately

A few reminders:

- No hats in the school

- No revealing tank tops or muscle shirts

- No clothing displaying offensive language and graphics

April with students, handed out by Connect Teachers.

At the end of each semester, in February & June, semester

final grades will be mailed home to the address on file.

• Students can take up to eight credits in Summer School.
