PRE-KINDERGARTEN NEWS
This week in Pre-Kindergarten we are happy to announce that the children are settling in well and are getting to know their new routine very quickly. We have enjoyed reading, Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Cuthbert’s Babies by Pamela Allen. These books have sparked conversations about differences, friendships and families. We have been looking at and listening to many rhyming words and focused on the nursery rhyme, Hickory, Dickory Dock. Mousie Brown, the class puppet, was a hit with the children. We have explored the colour blue and investigated squares. During news, the children have brought in their favourite toy to show. It is pleasing to witness so many confident children. We enjoy having Mrs Rivett as our Assistant, Library with Mrs Wells, PE with Mr Jackman and music with Mrs McLeod. I look forward to catching up with all the Pre-Kinder families at the Junior School picnic on Tuesday .

KANGA 9s CRICKETThe boys played a tremendous game in very positive spirits against Blayney at home on Edgell Oval. Oscar won the toss and elected to field first which really paid off. Our guys took 9 wickets this week (more than double the 4 from last week) with many catches and run outs. They also only lost only 6 wickets when batting (compared to 11 last week). This was a huge improvement both in the field when bowling, and just as importantly by valuing their wickets when batting. Well done to all on a magnificent improvement. Aston was player of the match. Other notable mentions for snaring 2 wickets each to Oscar, Finn, Bax, and Lachie M, and 1 wicket to Banjo. Bax top scored with 10. Banjo was next with 8. (and equally important - neither lost their wicket). Equal 3rd top score were Fin, Lachie M, and younger brother Callum M (who stepped up from Milo cricket to fill in) and played an outstanding game for someone so young. Can’t wait to sign him up full time. At the end of the day ASC U9s scored 6 for 53 runs, Ave 8.8. Going down by the narrowest of margin averages to Blayney scoring 9 for 82 runs, Ave 9.1.Well done lads. Mr Dion Killiby
10 YEARS CRICKETWe had six players this week and we fielded like never before! We bowled and batted pretty well, but unfortunately we lost by a small margin. Thanks to the Mums and Dads who bring us each week. Lucas Kamper
12 YEARS RED & BLUE CRICKET With the game poised in ASC Blue’s favour, the two 12 years ASC teams resumed the second week of their two week game on Saturday. The ASC Red batsmen returned to the crease with the goal of scoring enough runs to make victory difficult for Blue. Andy Jackman finished the game with a very strong 42 not out and Tom Siede scored a solid 12 to leave Red at a respectable 10/130. There was some very tidy bowling and fielding from Blue, with Henry Palmer finishing the day with 2/6 and Gus Parsons involved with bowling and fielding wickets to his name. In the second batting innings for Blue, scoring started slowly with some controlled bowling from the Siede brothers, James Edward, Will Townsend and Max Corbett. As time wore on, the skill of the batsman won-out, with Blue exceeding the Red’s total. Aveer Gill and Hamish showed great patience to score 20 and 25 runs respectively. Although the game was finished, the teams continued to play and were treated to a fine display of run scoring from Will Purvis, who was unbeaten on 34 with several 4s and a big 6 to his name. Robert Jefferies also showed great form, unbeaten on 11. It was a game played in fine spirit. Thank you to the umpires Mr Siede and Mr Siegert and to Mr Parsons and Mr Gill for scoring over the two weeks of game. Mrs Jo Nicholls
A change of seasonHave mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (Psalm 51:1-2, NRSV)Yesterday marked the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. The traditions of Ash Wednesday were marked in our chapel services throughout this week, beginning with the following words:
Brothers and sisters in Christ, since early days Christians have observed with great devotion the time of our Lord’s passion
and resurrection and prepared for this by a season of repentance and fasting. By carefully keeping these days, Christians take to heart the call to repentance and the assurance of forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel, and so grow in faith and in devotion to our Lord.I invite you, therefore, in the name of Christ, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; by reading and meditating on God’s
holy word; and to confirm your intention by receiving the sign of ashes.
Our students from years 3-12 actively participated in the action of repentance by writing down those things for which they were sorry. Their papers were collected and then burned to create the ashes that were used for marking their foreheads as their sign of repentance. I was pleased with the reverence of students as they immersed themselves in this service.Over the next few weeks until Easter I will focus on the key elements of Lent as they apply to the Christian faith. With every blessing,Rev. Tony Card.Thought for the week: The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. (Psalm 51:17, NRSV)
