PERSISTENCE Today’s readings are about persistence, passionate persistence. Exodus tells of a ba le won despite weariness because Moses, with help from Aaron and Hur, held his hands raised. Timothy asks that same persistence of his community and us. Luke tells of a court case won by a widow, despite the dishonesty of the judge, because she will not leave him alone. The psalm reminds us that God is every-where, guarding us from harm day and night, coming and going, now and forever. The readings are about persistence, the relent-less, unwavering pursuit of what must not be lost. The readings are about God’s passionate persistence in pursuing us, seeking to win our hearts. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Although the hours of daylight are rapidly dwindling, many people would say that these October days bring the year’s most splendid weather. Americans are riders and joggers, not strollers, and so the pleasures of the season are o en lost on us. This is not the case with many Jewish people, who observe an ancient rule in walking to synagogue on the Sabbath. On city streets and suburban sidewalks in many ci es, we may no ce around sunset the nicely dressed families walking and cha ng on Friday a ernoon. A er a short prayer at dusk, the families stroll home again for a relaxing and fes ve meal. They return to synagogue in the morning, and then spend an a ernoon in family leisure un l three stars appear in the night sky and Sabbath ends. Catholics, on the other hand, pile into the car and drive even a short dis-tance to Mass; some even divide the family to par cipate at different hours. For Jews, the leisurely walk marks a dividing line between hec c life commitments and a day of abundant joy and enrichment. Before we became an automobile culture, Catholics embraced a similar pace, and in most places walked to church. These lovely days of fall invite us to tap into an old and life-giving tradi on. If you live within a mile of your church, walk next week. If you must drive, park at a good distance and walk the rest of the way. Talk about your life, greet strangers, no ce the crunch of leaves under your shoes. You may be surprised at how different Sunday Mass feels when it is framed by leisure! —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En 1823 se fundó el pueblo de San Rafael de las Quebradillas en Puerto Rico. Este pueblo fue dedicado al santo patrón de los pescadores. Rafael, también es el ángel patrono de la salud. Aunque hoy día su fiesta esta combinada con los otros arcángeles el 29 de sep embre, en el viejo calendario este santo fue con-memorado el 24 de octubre. Rafael (Dios salva) se encuentra en el libro de Tobías y según el autor bíblico, este ángel es el ángel de la guarda de Tobías. El mismo Rafael se presenta como uno de los siete ángeles o arcángeles que llevan las oraciones de los justos al trono de Dios y que gozan de la presencia gloriosa del San simo (Tobías 12:15). Mi padre siempre dice que hay que pedir una cosa a Dios, la salud. Si tene-mos la salud nada nos falta. Es interesante que en la n, salud y salvación son la misma palabra, salus. The following is our annual address of the financial posi on of All Saints Parish from the All Saints Parish Finance Commi ee. The Commi ee assists Fr. Bill in the management and oversight of all Parish finances to ensure that the parish operates in a financially prudent and sustainable manner. What we strive to achieve is to keep the parish fi-nancially solvent, meaning that all debts and obliga ons are paid in a mely manner, and that all ministries have the funding needed to fulfill their mission. Our driving goal is to enable the con nued growth, development and success of the parish. Below is the statement of revenues and expenses for All Saints for the fiscal years-ended June 30, 2019 and 2018.

Searching for Volunteers The Funeral Ministry at All Saints is looking for new volunteers to join our team. Volunteers assist at Funeral Masses with church setup, Communion distribu-
on, altar serving, helping family members with readings and offertory, and clean-up a erwards. The celebra on of the Chris an funeral brings hope and consola on to the living. All who take part can experience God's mercy, hope in the Resurrec on, and the human need to turn always to God in mes of crisis. To bury the dead is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Most Funeral Masses take place on a weekday morning or a Saturday morning. Team members are emailed of upcoming funerals and asked to respond with their availability. A group of about two or three volunteers are then assigned to assist with the funeral. Being on the team requires minimal me commitment and you will only be expected to serve if you are available. Training is provided at a Funeral Mass that you are able to a end. You are not required to be a Eucharis c Minister but it is helpful. If you feel called to par cipate in this rewarding ministry and offer support to the family and loved ones of the deceased when they need it most, we’d love to have you on our team. It has its roots in pre-Columbian indigenous tradi-
ons and the ritual of the Catholic Church and coincides with the reli-gious feast days of All Saints and All Souls Days. The combina on of indigenous, ancient beliefs and the church’s teachings have created the celebra on of Dia de Los Muertos, days to honor deceased family members and other loved ones.
