Peg Machia, sister of
Germaine Fagnant
May she rest in peace, and may
her family find comfort from
their faith in Jesus Christ.
Dear Friends,
“To Christians, the future does have a
name, and its name is Hope. Feeling hopeful does
not mean to be optimistically naïve and ignore the
tragedy humanity is facing. Hope is the virtue of
a heart that doesn’t lock itself in darkness, that
doesn’t dwell on the past, does not simply get by in
the present, but is able to see a tomorrow.” (Pope
Francis, April 2017). Knowing the history of our
faith enables the Christian to see our entire faith
experience relies on the fulfillment of the hope in
the resurrection as experienced by the women at
the tomb on Easter morning! It seems to me that
hope is the central gift of our faith and in these
times, these very tumultuous times, we are almost
afraid of it, afraid of hope. There are many, many
reasons behind this. Who want to get hurt again?
“Once burned, twice shy” as the old
saying goes permeates much of our lives. Many
relationships that were built on trust have
collapsed under the weight of falsehoods,
innuendos, and outright lies. Be they in the
Church, in social institutions, corporate life, hope
is one of the first casualties in the fight and yet the
most necessary of virtues on which we must
depend. One website reported that, altogether,
some form of “Do not be afraid” is repeated 365
times throughout scripture. If we are not afraid,
then we can trust in Jesus who is our only hope!
As Pope Francis says in the above quote,
“Feeling hopeful does not mean to be optimistically
naïve and ignore the tragedy humanity is
facing.” To be sure, rose colored glasses really
don’t provide a clear view of the future any more
than dark glasses allow us to see the light in front
of our very eyes. However, every day, we must
choose to be a person or a people of
Hope. How? Find those who are in the same fight
and same struggle as you are and join hands, join
heart, join in prayer, and “Be not afraid! I am
with you always!”
The father of the Prodigal Son in today’s
gospel never gave up hope and look what
happened!
Peace, Fr. Michael

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING

session, the training is available online. To register for the
Online Course, email [email protected]. You will
then be contacted by Cathaleen Peloquin from the Office
of Healing and Prevention who will send you the link for
the online training. Once you have completed the training
you must send the certificate to Michelle Lutter. If you are
interested in a LIVE course or if you have any questions
please contact Michelle Lutter at the Religious Ed. Office,

that you fill out a CORI form each year (with attached

Ministerial Conduct. These forms can be found on the
table outside the Religious Ed Office.

our Lord, Jesus Christ, if their village was spared
the Bubonic Plague. So now, those years that end in
a zero, two thousand people of the town and
engaged in this extraordinary production! Flyers
are available at the doors to the church and
reservations will be accepted on a first come, first

Next weekend, Samer Awwad, representing the
Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will be
selling Crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries -
all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and
Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted,
Christian families in the Holy Land, who depend on
tourist, have been greatly affected. Sale of these
goods will help them very much and also give you
the opportunity to have
“something” authentic from the
Holy Land. Please browse and
buy some articles. It is for a good
cause and also a help to your
personal devotion. Thank you!
Our next meeting will be on
Monday, September 16th
at 7:00PM in the parish
family center. All are
welcome, and please bring
your bible. For more infor-
mation, call Nancy Maciel
at 603-892-0763.
We will be selling frozen apple
pies (leftover from the Bazaar)
after the 5PM Mass on Sat.,
September 21st, downstairs in
the church hall. They are $4.
