CarlwentontocompleteadegreeinmusicattheUniversityofBristol.HecontinuedhisstudiesatOxfordbeforeordinationintotheChurchofEnglandin1977.‘Itwasanexcitingtime’saysCarl,‘withaliberalleadingedgeledbyamazingpeoplelikeMichaelRamseyandDonCupitt.Beingapriestisanemotivethingandattimesdifficulttoknowifyou’re‘doingitright’.Therecanbepressuresonthetenetsofyourfaith,butIsupposethatshowsyou’redoingitright’.

April 2011 will see the end of analogue television transmissions from the Ridge Hill transmitter, from 20th April 2011 you will only be able to receive Freeview Digital & Freeview High Definition (HD) programmes.

In order to continue watching and recording terrestrial television programmes via your aerial you will need to upgrade your equipment.

You now have several options…. Convert your old TV to digital by fitting a DigiBox, remember if you own a Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) this will not work after April, it can be converted with a DigiBox but this over complicates the recording procedure and many people do not bother. Your VCR can still be used to playback old recordings but it’s recording days are now realistically finished.

Changing your old TV to a new SONY LCD digital TV with a High Definition (HD) tuner built-in which will receive the new FREE High Definition service is another option, also investing in new programme recording equipment with either a SONY Hard Drive (HDD) DVD recorder or Freeview+ Personal Video Recorder (PVR) being the two common preferences. Recording and playing back TV programmes has never been easier with these devices and the picture quality is as good as live TV.

If you already use a Freeview TV and/or recording device you will need to perform a full retune of all your equipment on 20th April in order to continue receiving and recording Freeview programmes.
