All About Ticks

Beginning stages• Ticks are born in batches of around 200 and quickly begin their

journey. They seek dense vegetation and make their way to the top of say a strand of grass and wait for a animal to become their next meal.

• A common myth on ticks is that they can jump on you. That is not possible; they can only crawl.

• Shortly upon arrival, the tick will attach to host within 4 hours.

Species of the tick

• While there are hundreds of species of ticks, there is on ly 3 major ticks to the U.S.

• 2 of which is native to our homeland, the blacklegged tick(deer tick) and dog tick

The Life Cycle

Why their so tough to kill

• Have you ever tried to stomp on a tick to try to kill it? If you have, then you know that they are tough. The reason is their hard shell. Also, their legs are segmented into two parts and also have a shell like covering.

*Diseases they can carry• Ticks usually don’t transmit diseases

immediately ; this process takes a couple hours once connected to the host.

• Most people consider lyme disease the most harming. This is indeed the most common tick disease. Symptoms include headache and large rashes, called bulls eye. It can usually be treated w/ antibiotics and cured in beginning stages.

Tick Removal• While most people immediately freak out when they discover a tick on them, you generally have nothing

to worry about if you know the necessary procedures. Side notes• Never twist or use products such as matches or cleaners.• If prone to a tick infested area, you may want to invest in a tick removal tool. These work very well.

• Step 1• Get a pair

of tweezers

Step 2 put the tweezers onto the head of the tick and grab. Pull the tick firmly out in a sturdy straight line.

Step 3Clean up wound. Watch the bitten area for several days. If irritation occurs, try using a disinfecting spray.
