Stoptober Experiences Laura Miller from Rochda le supports
Stoptober and suggests smokers get as much support as possible,
like the free Stoptober pack. Lau ra started smoking at 15 and quit
after she became pregna nt with her second child, she said:
"I have a 2 year old son who follows me around the house and he
would catch me smoking, which made me feel gu ilty. Gping out to
the back garden for a cigarette became a struggle because he would
want to come outside and play which wasn't practical in the
rain.
"It hasn't been easy but w ith the right support I know I ca n
stay smokefree forever. It's important that I do this not on ly for
myself but so that I can be around to look after my children.
"Stoptober is a great idea. I have spoken to all my friends
about it and encouraged everyone to sign up."
Stoptober - One Year On -Steve Lamacroft Steve, a fitter at
Babcock International, decided to quit smoking for Stoptober in
2012. His main mot ivation was his 9 year old daughter, Bethany,
who really wanted him to quit. Every morning Steve used to feel
guilty lighting up in the car taking Bethany to school and after
his workplace went smokefree he
used to have to walk miles to have a cigarette.
Steve signed up to Stoptober at the beginning of September and
received help from the Plymouth NHS Stop Smoking Service for
medication to help with his quit through October. His last
cigarette was on 30th September 2012 and since then he hasn't
looked back.
Steve, an avid fan of Facebook, joined the NHS Smokefree group
on Facebook. Through the group, he communicated with people from
Plymouth and all around the country throughout the month of
October. Steve says "The group was fantastic-we were able to be
there for each other and keep each other going through the month.
We are al l still friends and we finally met each other face to
face in Derby this summer:'
This year Steve is hoping his wife w ill quit through Stoptober
and will encourage her to find support on line. Sign up for your
