Easy Eight’s Battleground World War II® is a tabletop

miniatures game that fi ghts the greatest war the world has ever

seen – but this time you are the commander in the fi eld! Lead

gutsy and mobile US GIs into combat with Bazookas, Tommy

Guns, and Garand Rifl es. Duke it out with tough German troops

loaded for action with Schmeissers, Potato Mashers, and Lugers!

Or defend the Russian Motherland with charging “Ivans” armed

with PPSh-41 SMGs and Molotov Cocktails! Whichever army you

choose to lead, you are sure to have quick, easy and exciting fun

with the Battleground Miniatures Rule System . We invite you to

explore our website. So stick around and get ready for real hard-

hitting action with Battleground World War II® – where magic

can’t save you, only guts and glory!

The Battleground Miniatures Rule System is simple

and easy to learn. It also accurately recreates the way World War

II was actually fought by the men in the front ranks. Easy Eight

Enterprises spent three years of writing, playtesting, and research-

ing to make sure these three goals (simple, easy, accurate) where

captured in the Battleground Miniatures Rule System .

The basic premise of the Battleground Miniatures Rule

System is that one miniature fi gure on a game table represents

one World War II soldier. Each fi gure/soldier receives two actions

every game turn in a Battleground World War II game. A typical

action is moving in combat, shooting a rifl e, throwing a grenade,

or just about anything you can think of! Dice are then rolled to

determine the success of most actions and to see if any damage

is done to the enemy. The fun part of the Battleground Miniatures

Rule System is that players (who we call gamers) get to actu-

ally decide what actions his men do. In other words he commands

them in battle!

Battleground World War II® games are played on a table

with terrain making a 3-D battlefi eld. Battleground World War II®

games are also played with either pre-generated game scenarios

(some are offered free on our website – see Support) or through

a point system where each opponent “buys” his army/force with

points. The main rules explain the game table, terrain, and both

ways of playing (though which method you play is again your

choice)!

The best way to get started is to get the Action Pack box

set. This will get you started with the Battleground World War

II® Rules Set, 10 US miniatures, 10 German miniatures, and dice.

The rules will explain how the game is played in an easy to learn

format.

Another good way to get started is to get a friend or two

involved. Battleground World War II® is not a solitaire game and

requires two or more players.

The most important thing is to have fi gures to play with!

Figures are the game pieces and thus are required for play. First,

choose an army that suits your fancy. Select one of the US,

German, or Russian armies. Have your friend(s) select an oppos-

ing army to yours.

In Battleground World War II® different armies are struc-

tured very similar. In World War II armies organized men into

units. The base unit in World War II and thus in the game is the

Rifl e Squad. This unit is 10 men, each man in the Rifl e Squad

having a special duty or job. Three or four Rifl e Squads make up a

Rifl e Platoon – approximately 45 men. Special units in each army

can also be attached to Rifl e Squads or Platoons during the course

of play. These special units are generally smaller in size but pos-

sess machine guns, anti-tank weapons, or other special attributes

that spice up any army! Oh, by the way don’t forget to add a sniper

team or two just to shake up the enemy.

Page 3: All About Bgww2

The choice is really up to you! Each unit has specifi c infor-

mation and rules about how that unit fi ghts in Battleground World

War II combat. This information is captured on Play Sheets.

Reading the Play Sheets of each unit help to explain the pros, cons,

and special abilities of each unit. These Play Sheets can be found in

the Support section of our website or are found in our supplemental

Scenario Packs like Fury On The Fatherland®.

Generally, most gamers have an army or force of at least

a platoon in size. This usually equals four Rifl e Squads and one

Rifl e Platoon Command unit – or roughly 45 fi gures. Other units

are then attached to the Rifl e Platoon to give added abilities in play.

Some gamers add extra machine guns (MMG Teams) or Snipers.

The choice is up to you to customize your force the way you think

is best.

One of the neat features of tabletop miniatures gaming is

that it combines several different hobbies into one! Gaming is obvi-

ously one such hobby while collecting miniatures is another. An

added hobby is that of painting your Battleground World War II®

miniatures. Painting your miniatures is not only fun but it adds real-

ism and color to your gaming experience. Look for painting advice

on our website in the very near future.

So you now have built your army and ready to fi ght. Your

anti-tank units are ready for the enemy armor, but you hesitate

to fi eld your force without a big punch. There is something cool

about placing a gigantic steel monster on the table, it just makes

the enemy sweat! We know you need armor to knock out your

opponent so this article is to help you fi nd the armor you need.

Easy Eight’s line of Battle-Cast are designed for use with

1/48th scale vehicles. Though not often found in local hobby and

model shops, 1/48th scale vehicles are easily obtained at more

than reasonable prices. There are essentially two types of 1/48th

vehicles available in the market: plastic models and die-cast.

Plastic 1/48th Bandai and Fuman kits are sometimes

found in hobby stores. Recently the company FROG has pur-

chased the rights to all of the molds for the old Bandai line. This

line of models features mostly German and US tanks and half-

tracks. A few Russian kits are also available including the T-34/76

and the SU-85. The Bandai/Fuman kits do require assembly but

are good quality kits. Another company called Gaso.line out of

France manufactures special upgrades designed expressly for the

Bandai/Fuman lines. A T-34/85 upgrade for example is offered to

convert your Bandai T-34/76. Ask your local model shop about

obtaining Bandai, Fuman, and Gaso.line products. Another good

source for these vehicles is ebay. com. Simply search for “1/48

Bandai” to fi nd auctioned 1/48th plastic kits. These kits retail

around $20 but may be purchased even cheaper via e-bay! We

also recommend StormBird Hobbies at http://www.ciwec.com/

stormbird/ they carry a large selection of 1/48 scale vehicles and

guns by Gaso-line. We also must mention a great web site on 1/48

armor vehicles: http://hometown.aol.com/brewace/1-48a.htm this

site is a great resource for all of your 1/48 scale needs.

Die-cast vehicles are made from die-cast metal and fea-

ture moving turrets and treads. The tracks even roll! Solido is the

main manufacturer out of France. Solido die-cast vehicles can be

purchased for around $20. This is really a bargain for a wargamer.

Unlike plastic kits the die-cast vehicles are virtually indestructa-

ble and will last a lifetime of gaming. Solidos are also offered on

ebay and good deals can be had on these excellent die-cast vehi-

cles. Solidos can also be distributed to game shops. Ask your local

game store to carry Solidos - if your game store owner doesn’t

know how to order them, have the owner give Brad Sanders at

Easy Eight Enterprises a call. Brad will be glad to tell your game

shop owner how to carry these at your local store/Battleground

World War II retailer

For those Battleground gamers uninterested in obtaining

1/48 vehicles from a model shop or via ebay.com, we recommend

toy-mania.com. This on-line model shop offers a wealth of 1/48th

vehicles including the awesome Solidos! Great variety and prices

make toy-mania.com your one-stop shop for purchasing 1/48th

vehicles.

There are some great vehicles out there to add to your

army. It may take a little me looking around than the fi gures but

it’s kind of fun when you locate a vehicle thats hard to fi nd (not

to mention your friends can’t get). So head out on the web search

those tanks down. If you still need help please give us a call and

we would be happy to help.

This 250/8 is great for point battles. Its cheap and packs a punch! This one is from Gaso.Line.

The good old T-34/85 the backbone of any Russian army. A great vehicle from Solido.

The Puma is another great vehicle for the point system. Fast a good gun and some armor protection, who could ask for more. This vehicle is from Parade and can be found on the Toy-Maina web site.

The US Halftrack is great for moving up infantry into action. The metal model is a Solido, often found on ebay for less than 20 bucks.

The Gaso.line converion of a Panther is great. These vehicles where used by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge to trick Americans into thinking they were US M10s. If I can just fi gure out how to use this during a point battle...

This is a great conversion by Toy-Mania to a Solido MKIV. No need to paint the vehicle, just put it into action!
