NEWSLETTER ALKIMOS BAPTIST COLLEGE
Hello Parents, Students, Families and Friends,
What a fantastic term we have had. I praise God for his blessings to our College. Thank you to our staff and students for being involved in all the great programs and activities that were on offer this term. The program just keeps getting busier into next term. A few highlights are Annie Jnr, Sports Carnival, Exams, Reports and Social Events.
Before the big Term 2 hits us, I would like to wish all our families a wonderful, safe holiday. I hope that you get to rest and spend quality time with each other.
I would encourage all our families to renew their strength in the Lord. Isaiah 40: 30-31 states
“But those who wait upon GOD get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.”
I hope you have wonderful holidays.

College School News
A brand new Garden Club starts in Term 2 with Mr Barrett, students in Year 1 - 6 are invited. Limited numbers, so remember to register early!
Congratulations to the Year 5/6 Technology class for a comprehensive win over the Year 7/8 Robotics Engineering Class in the 2016 Rube Goldberg Challenge. 2 very impressive machines were on display for the College community on Friday 1st April. After a big term of planning and creating and with only 10 attempts each, both classes were primed and ready for a big competition. The Year 5/6’s went first and after a big build up, failed on their first attempt. Thinking they would easily take the win, the parents and students marched across to the Year 7/8 machine, only to see them fail as well. Back and forward the parents and students went until on the 10th attempt the Year 7/8 students faltered at the last hurdle. Back in the Year 5/6 room, a few modifications had occurred which saw their machine work on the very last attempt. The cheer was enormous. Congratulations to the Year 5/6 Team for their fantastic efforts on the day. Well done to the Year 7/8
team for a great effort.

The Alkimos Baptist College Facebook Page is a fantastic way to communicate with families the and exciting events and activities that our College is involved in. Second to our fortnightly Newsletter, the Facebook page is the most popular way for promoting our College to our community. As such, the College wishes to extend the influence and popularity of the Facebook page by including photographs of students involved in these activities. This change will come into effect after the 25th April 2016.
If you wish for your child to not be included in the photographs please fill out the below permission slip and return it to the College reception area before the 8th April 2016.
The College Facebook page is www.facebook.com/alkimosbaptistcollege
I do not wish for my child to appear in the photographs that are displayed on the College Facebook page: www.facebook.com/alkimosbaptistcolllege

STRAVENS’ SPORTS SPOT
Athletics Carnival:
Midway through next term the College will be holding its Annual Athletics Carnival. These are always a wonderful day of competition, fun and plenty of colour. On the day we will need parent volunteers to assist with marshalLing and measuring events.
This year we are planning to organize this in a way that allows you to follow your child to each event. If you are available to help please see Mr Stravens. Carnivals rely on the assistance of parents and your help is always greatly appreciated.
Lunchtime Sport:
Well done to all the teams for a wonderful term of lunchtime sport. The spirit and sportsmanship you displayed was wonderful.
Our Grand Final match will take place in the first week of next term. Well done to the Space Invaders who have been the first team to qualify for the Grand Final.
Next Term, students will have the opportunity to sign up to play netball as their lunchtime sport. They will learn the basics during sport lessons and have the opportunity to develop these skills during After School Sports.
Interschool Cross Country:
Earlier this week many students received notes inviting them to prepare for next term’s Interschool Cross Country competition.
All students are encouraged to attend Monday Morning training club that will resume on Monday the 2nd of May.
Even if your child does not make the final team, the fitness benefits of this training will be beneficial.

Primary Interschool Swimming Carnival
On Thursday the 31st of March Alkimos Baptist College sent its first team to an Interschool Swimming Carnival. Although only small in number our students performed incredibly well,
showing great heart, enthusiasm and competitiveness.
We would like to say a big thank you to our parent helpers for their assistance with recording race results on the day.
As a team Alkimos came second in the handicap points and we had some amazing individual efforts. Abbie Lorraine and Jackson Anderson were named Champion Girl and Boy of the Year 3 age groups. Ellie Manning was also name Champion
Girl of the Year 5 age groups.
We look forward to building a bigger and stronger team in the years to come and once again congratulate all swimmers
who participated.
