This project was an entry in an IDEC competition. We were charged with designing a clinic that met needs specific to our region. In West Virginia, heart related diseases, obesity and diabetes are prevalent health issues. My partner and I chose to design a clinic for women that focuses on treating these health issues. Georgia O’Keeffe paintings were our main color and layout inspirations. We chose furnishings and fixtures that are comfortable, ergonomic and designed for women of all shapes and sizes.

Highmark, Inc, is a national Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliate based in Pittsburgh, PA that serves 33.5 million people across the United States through their various insurance products. I have worked as the primary designer for Highmark projects since March 2013. When Workscape, Inc, won their second contract with Highmark, I continued in the primary designer role. The following projects are located at Highmark’s Camp Hill, PA facilities near Harrisburg, PA. Installation will begin in mid-October, 2013.

Shown here are the workstation standards developed in conjunction with the Highmark facilities team. The facilities team chose the workstations sizes, the finishes and the main components. No seating was required for these projects. I was responsible for developing properly supported and powered workstations, specifying all of the furniture and pricing the entire project based on contracted discounting.

McKesson Corporation is the largest healthcare services company in the nation providing software, automation technology, distribution and business services to its clients. Workscape, Inc. serves McKesson locations in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. Since February 2013, I have been the primary interior designer for Workscape’s McKesson projects. This project is located in King of Prussia, PA. It integrates 285 new workstations and ancillary furniture with existing private offices. Installation begins in October 2013.

McKesson Corporation has a set of national standards with which new projects must comply. The 6’x6’ stations shown in this rendering were designed to be easily reconfigurable with freestanding components and tiled panels-all the same width. McKesson wanted workstations that would make the office feel more open, and allow more light to enter the building, all while fostering a collaborative work environment. This rendering was produced with Visual Impression software.

Coldwater Creek, the popular women’s clothier, wants to establish their Advertising & Product Merchandising Division near Morgantown, WV. With this project, we were to design a 8,000-10,000 sqft commercial space to house this division. The challenge of the space plan was creating a comfortable and intuitive space in relation to the numerous windows and strategically placed seismic bracing. We ended up creating a plan that utilized the upper portion of the available space. It gave us the opportunity to use the abundant natural light provided by the large windows, and to create a more open and less orthogonal work space.

The furnishings and case goods for the space were chosen to be comfortable and functional. All of the materials contain low or no VOCs and most contain at least 25% recycled content. The finishes for the space are hues of blues, grays and cream with brown accents. They were chosen to represent the “creek” of Coldwater Creek. They also create a calm and serene work environment. All painted finishes contain low or no VOC. The flooring consists of durable carpet tiles that can be replaced if they become worn prematurely or damaged. There are also different spaces that are highlighted with warm wood flooring or tile. One interesting feature in the space is the lighted woven wall that covers the ceiling of the reception area. Also, there are acrylic partitions throughout the space that real dried leaves and flowers within them.

The space has abundant natural lighting that is supplemented by efficient fluorescent and LED light fixtures. The Coldwater Creek store mock-up, where associates plan displays for stores, features the signature Coldwater Creek gooseneck exterior lights. The interior of the store features repositionable track lighting for flexibility. This travel agency project involved designing a boutique travel agency. The space was to be inspired by our study abroad location. I studied abroad in Brno, Czech Republic. I used the colors and shapes I encountered in the country to develop a functional space in a very narrow 1,200 sqft footprint. The furnishing and case goods were chosen to be comfortable and functional. One of the quirky features of the space is the Mies Van der Rohe Brno chair for guest seating.

The Cruz family of Morgantown, WV wants to renovate its large kitchen to make it more ecofriendly and conducive to entertaining large groups. The family is of Mexican decent, and wants to use the American Southwest as inspiration for the design of the kitchen.To contribute to ecofriendliness, the space was fitted with wheatboard cabinetry, paperstone counter tops, recycled glass tile, reclaimed wood floors, clay based paint and LED lighting fixtures. The space was left open with wide circulation paths and easy clearances to support numerous people. There is also a large dining table with removable leaves.

This loft apartment design was the final part of a series of projects focused on programming, space planning and graphics. The assignment was to design a 500sqft apartment for a young graphic designer. The space features 12ft ceilings, a full bathroom, kitchen and living area, as well as a sleeping loft with office space underneath. A highlight of the space is three large south-facing windows that allow light to enter the entire space.
