Our speaker is GAIL SHINBERG Gail will be facilitating a Bintel Brief interactive discussion. Bintel Brief was an early “advice” column and clearing house for readers in need. It served the Jewish community in the early 1900’s.
Original letters will be read, and you, the audience, will recommend solutions. Then Gail will share the actual responses from the editors.

On January 31, the Israeli government voted to approve the expansion of the Kotel/Western Wall plaza to accommodate a space for egalitarian prayer. In response, Hadassah National President Ellen Hershkin released the following statement: As the President of the largest women’s Zionist organization, I celebrate this major step forward for women’s equality, religious pluralism, and the preservation of Jewish unity. We have long advocated that the Kotel remain a source of cohesion for world Jewry, rather than of division. This decision ensures that Judaism’s holiest site is accessible to all Jews. Hadassah leaders and members have been vocal and active advocates -- from the U.S. and on the ground in Jerusalem -- for all women’s right to pray, individually and collectively, freely, without harassment, and in accordance with their own religious practices. We thank the Israeli government and Jewish Agency Chair Natan Sharansky for their leadership and commitment to examine prayer at the Kotel, and their inclusion of Diaspora Jewry in these important discussions. As a member agency, Hadassah joins with the Jewish Council of Public Affairs and the greater Jewish community in marking this historic decision.

**Donations to Hadassah would be appreciated at all Education programs where there is no charge. There will be a collection bowl in evidence at the door.
By purchasing a candle on our new Simcha cake you can share your simchas with all of us at our general meeting. Your simchas will be announced at the monthly meeting and will also be included in our monthly bulletin. The cost of a candle will be $2 which will be used to offset costs for refreshments. Watch for it
starting at the April meeting.
This regional fund-raiser raffle supports the Hadassah Hospital and our chapter. Credit for submitted raffles helps us fulfill our quota.

January 11, 2016 — New York — A new ALS treatment utilizing a stem cell infusion protocol performed at Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) and developed by the US/Israeli biotech company BrainStorm Cell Therapeutics (NASDAQ: BCLI), has significantly slowed the progression of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), announced Ellen Hershkin, National President of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Inc. JAMA Neurology published the findings of the Phase 1/2 and Phase 2a ALS Clinical Trials conducted by Dr. Dimitrios Karussis, MD, PhD, Sr. Neurologist, HMO Neurology, in their 1/11/16 issue. These Clinical Trials, which began in 2011, utilized an innovative adult stem cell self-transplantation treatment involving the harvesting of stem cells from the patient’s bone marrow, their culture and enhancement using Brainstorm’s patented protocol NurOwn® and their injection into the patient’s cerebrospinal fluid by a technique that was developed and proposed by the Hadassah investigators. 26 ALS patients participated in the trials at HMO / Jerusalem, which is owned by HWZOA.
