What if speed was the essence.:

Rotating carbon mast, Square topped mainsail, Asymmetric tilted dagger-board foils, High aspect ratio rudder, Carbon canting wheel, U shaped hull, Aft center of Gravity, Huge bow-sprit to fly large Code0 and massive asymmet-ric kite... Alibi’s DNA is definitively orientated toward very high performance :

If you place the emphasis on lightness with a slim interior and the use of carbon, Kevlar, D4, Dynnema and others high tech fibers, you can turn your Alibi into a pure performance toy without compromising her ability to cross any ocean in comfort.

Your Alibi sail at 8kt with 5 kt of wind... this unrivalled speed will allow you to sail most of the time. Electric propulsion, solar cells or rain water collection would make your Alibi even greener.

Moreover, the Alibi Diesel genset and large battery bank already in place for the Electric propulsion allows to install all the comfort equipment you could dream of without major weight penalty: Air Conditioned, water-maker, washing machine, dishwasher, induction hob... truly turn your Alibi in a blue water cruiser.

Anyway, Alibi’s goal is to design a boat perfectly matching your dreams. Thus, this document shall only be seen as the starting point of a really unique design ; your Alibi 54.

Truly high-end conception and constructionComposite structure optimized thank to finite element analysis:

Fiber cloth Woven & unidirectional fiberglass fabrics always <600 g/m² .Hand laid and 100% vacuum-bagged or infusedComposite sandwich construction with 100% PVC foam core (Balsa or PU free!)All the bulkhead and hulls assemblies are made with structural bonding and X-axis fabrics laminated under vacuum.Main Chainplate entirely in carbon fiber built under vacuum and post-cured Additional carbon fiber reinforcements in all the highly loaded areas (longitudinal stringers, bulkheads, hulls and crossbeams omega stiffeners)100% of your Alibi is built with Epoxy resinMostly constructed over female moulds for perfect outer-skin

Enhanced security:Sacrificial foam and glass “false” bow in case of impactWatertight bulkheads to seal off bow and stern compartmentsAbsolutely free of any osmosis thanks to the epoxy resinThe Alibi 53 is virtually unsinkable due to its foam core volume, watertightbulkheads and buoyancy compartments fore and aft

Infinite painting options:No Gel-coat, the Alibi is 100% paint to save weight and offers choices :White hull colorLight hull colorDark hull colorMetalic hull colorTeak or Nonskid finish on deckOff-white interior color“Satiné” interior color with a very smooth surfaceOceanprotect’s copper Antifouling or an epoxy based one

Super light and shinny paint:

Your Alibi is 100% painted. Get ride of the gel-coat generate a large sanding and spraying job but saves a lot of weight and gives you an infinite color range.

Inside, most of the boat builders are hiding the composite skin with counter-molded parts or upholstery. Sanding and spraying all the interior generate another tremendous job but the weight saving is huge. Moreover, it gives healthy and easy to maintain surfaces

Weight saving:

In order to offer out-standing sailing per-formances AND all the comforts appliances AND sufficient payload for round the world cruises, the composite shell of your Alibi must be incredibly light. Here is the reason why we are using building techniques and materi-als usually restricted to racing crafts or aero-space vessels.

The best materials :

Epoxy resin is 5 times more expensive but 30% more stiff and 2 times more resistant than polyester and vinylester resins used in most of the cruising boats and catamarans.

Same figures for the carbon but the benefits of this materials as already been widely advertised.

Same figures for the specific proper-ties of the sandwich construction. Nevertheless, it is important to pay attention to the core materials as honeycomb and reticulated PVC stand well above balsa or PU foams. As a bonus foam offers great phonic and thermal insulation.

First league hydrodynamic packageDaggerboard:

Asymmetric carbon fiber lifting daggerboards, post-cured in ovenUD impact strapping laminated around daggerboard trunksFully retractable daggerboards (3’ draght)Upper and lower bearings in PEHD and POM

••••

Asymmetric daggerboards

Here is the reason why your Alibi close haul like a monohull: the daggerboards are asymmetric like the wings of an air-craft. This curved shape improve the-heading by 3 to 5°. Amercica’s Cup boats are curving their centerboard shape in the same way thanks to their trim tab.As a bonus, the Alibi’s daggerboards are canted inward and this angle is lift-ing the bows like a foil. Foil! The word is popular thanks to the flying moths or the 60’ multihull floats. On your Alibi we are calling them asymetric dagger-board because they generate some lift like a foil and resist to leeway like a cen-trboard. Here is the reason why they are not C curved. A C shape foil is inefficient against leeway and shall be used in as-sociation with a centerboard. The only alternative shape on a catamaran is the S shape used by Alinghi during the last America’s Cup. C is not a good option.

Highlight and comments:

Lifting the rudder in a casette is the only option for minimum draught AND responsiveness. The system is self-aligning.

Alibi direct steering system restores responsiveness and lightness to your helm

Rudder & Steering:Retractable daggerboard style rudders with draft reducible to 30 inch (75 cm)Upper and lower low-friction systemCrossbar and connecting bars mounted on ball bearingVectran steering cables leading to the crossbar for responsive steering

Highlight and comments:

D4 is a membrane sail cloth with oriented fibers. It is a top of the shelf technology that compares to the patented north 3DL.

Hydranet is the best of the woven fabric. It is not a laminate and this specificity guaranty very long lasting sails. Assembled in radial orientation it offers great performance and very low creep.

Highlight and comments:

The Code 0 drifter / spinnaker furling system is very convenient. Learn more about this feature on: www.facnor.fr

Highlight and comments:

The majority of catamarans pitch excessively and pitching seriously impairs performance. Thus, all the weights in your Alibi are centered and we did place a lot of effort into saving weight for all the parts standing far from the center of gravity. Mast, boom and twin bowprit are obviously in this category and it justify to use the most sophisticated material and construction technique: Carbon pre-preg cured in a 5 bars Autoclave. This aerospace material gives your mast incredible strength and minimal deflection.

Of course, such a high-tech mast can only match with high end shrouds. Here is the reason why we did chose the lightest material: Aramid.

4 Electric self-tailing winches turn your Alibi into a smart push button yacht. Moreover, the deck layout do not need to be modified. The weight increase is a lit bit under 100 kg and the peak electric consummation is 6 kW.

Deck layout single-handled optimized :

Inspired by the Open60 racing trimarans, the boom of your Alibi is pushing forward on the trailing edge of the wing shaped mast in such a way that the mast orientation tack and gybe automatically. Moreover, all the controls lead toward the windward winch - just in front of the helm station. Thus, you can be alone on the deck and still have full control of your Alibi 54. It is even easy to tack or reef the mainsail alone.

Highlight and comments:

Tender with a powerful outboard (up to 50 Hp) has been designed for those who plan to use the boat as an exploration cat but also meet the requirement of those interested in wake boarding or water skiing.

The ultra light 2m90 tenders fitted with an electric drive of 6 Hp are solving the question of gasoline. The tender’s battery can be charged by the “mother” boat so that your tender is electric / diesel-electric.

Highlight and comments:

Black water holding tanks are an issue when times come to clean the bilges. Regulations are making the black water tanks over-engineered with too many pumps and hose leading to the sea the deck and the tank. The final result looks really complex.

The Lectra-scan is a small tank installed on the exhaust line and the using the salt of the sea (NaCh) to produce CHlorine and kill batteries. This equipment is not legal in restricted area (great lakes for instance).

Highlight and comments:

Alibi has been one of the very early fan of the Diesel-Electric revolution. Carefully studies and analysis lead us to the conclusion that this propulsion cannot compete with the classic diesel one in term of cost but the benefits truly balance this extra cost.

Now that cars are all going electric and lots of boats are thinking about following this trend, Alibi is rewarded for this early move.
