THE EUREKA PAVILION

The Eureka Pavilion is inspired by the form of a leaf. Seeking function and form inspira-tion from the architecture and structural form of plant leaf cells in particular. This design is described by the architects as ‘biomimicry,’ and keeping with the discussion of the topic in Research Field 1.0 the project arguably sits within the spectrum of biomimicry towards the centre, by mimicking the natural process of the structure of a leaf form, but not directly mimicking the form of a leaf. The project avoids a shallow and reductive form of bio-mimicry by abstracting the leaf form and articulating it into an architectural language. What is achieved is an intricate and elegant natural feeling space with enormous light infil-tration with dynamic subtle shade.
