Energy Future of Algeria?

The situation can be worst if no new gas field are found

The state may no longer subsidise the price of electricity

Page 16: Algeria Renewable Energy Program Outlook and … Renewable Energy Program Outlook and applications Smail Menani Vaasa University of Applied Sciences smail.menani@puv.fi Content Introduction

Conclusion 1

There is a big risk that the current model of Energy Consumption in Algeria will no longuer satisfy the increase of demand

Algeria needs a new energy model that integrate other energy alternatives to fullfil the future needs

The choice of Renewable energy in Algeria seems to be the most promisingand feasible

The Algerian potential in renewable energy is relatively big

In this context Algeria has developped a strategic renewable energy, and energy efficiency program to resolve the challenges of its future

Renewable Energy Program

The renewable energy program is defined through 4 phases in 20 years:

Installation of a total power capacity of 110 MW by 2013 ;

Installed power capacity to reach 650 MW by 2015 ;

Installed power capacity to reach about 2600 MW by 2020 and a possibility

of export of 2000 MW;

An additional capacity of about 12000MW is expected to be installed by 2030

and a possibility of export up to 10 000 MW.
