Chestnut Ave. Ms. Karr Room 213 Santa Ana, CA 92701 714-558-5100 Ruth.karr@ sausd.us Description: This course will allow students to develop an understanding of the symbolic language of mathematics. In addition, algebraic skills and concepts are developed and used in a wide variety of problem solving situations. Through this course, students will learn to make connections between various representations through the recognition and discovery of patterns. Textbook: Algebra Connections: College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) 6 th edition Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain, and understand various types of problems using algebraic skills. They will be able to discover and recognize patterns to solve and form connections between representations; including linear and quadratic equations. Content: This course contains problems dealing with rational and irrational expressions as they relate to linear and quadratic equations and their graphs. This course also contains problems dealing with systems of equations and inequalities. Students will also be presented with multiple tools to solve various problems including manipulatives (i.e. algebra tiles), substitution, quadratic formula, diamond problems, and generic rectangles. ASSIGNMENTS: Expect to receive an assignment every day. You are responsible for the work if you are absent. The assignment must be neat, legible, and labeled. If you are unable to understand the lesson or the homework, seek help, which is available after school, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.
