The MOOC on « Planning for Climate Change in AfricanCities » is a part of the Learning, Training and CapacityBuilding Offer of ALGA of UCLG-Africa

By joining this MOOC, participants will find out the toolsnecessary to help cities adapt to climate change in the contextof the African continent.

It was designed in 2017 in the framework of a Partnership withthe Institute for Housing and Development Studies (IHS) ofErasmus – University Rotterdam in the Netherlands

II. Objectives

The specific Objectives of this online training offer are:

To recognize the effects, impacts and drivers of climate change in cities

To understand the drivers of urban risk and vulnerability in the context of

climate change

To distinguish the typologies, approaches and tensions of climate change

adaptation

To explain the different approaches and steps in climate change planning

To examine the decision support and assessment tools for climate

change

To develop a climate change plan based on participants’ city context

III. The Modules

The MOOC is based on 5 Modules and 5 weeks during whichparticipants will learn:

WEEK 1: Climate change and Cities

WEEK 2 : Defining and Assessing Urban Risk and Vulnerability

WEEK 3 : Climate change Adaptation and Resilience

WEEK 4: Planning for Climate Change

WEEK 5: Decision making Analysis for Climate Change

The MOOC is providing also a carefully selected set of literature,quizzes and interactive discussion forums.
