  • in his hometown ofCumbria with the aim ofbringing internationallyrenowned artists to arural part of England including Nicola Benedetti,Steven Isserlis, TasminLittle, Natalie Clein, ChloeHanslip, and Alina Ibragimovato name a few. Part of his roleincludes work in thecommunity with local schoolchildren in workshops, familyconcerts, and master classes. In2014 he gave his conductingdebut in a performance ofBeethovens 2nd Symphony withthe Northern Chamber Orchestra.

    In 2012 he gained the admirationof the music world and beyond bycycling 1200 miles from Lands Endto John OGroats and giving a concertevery night, raising over 13,000 for charity.

    Anthony Hewitt is regarded as one of Britains finest pianists, and since winning theprestigious William Kapell Competition in Washington DC, has enjoyed a prolific careerspanning two decades, including concerto appearances with the National SymphonyOrchestra in the USA and in the UK with the English Chamber and Royal Philharmonicorchestras.

    He has performed at most of the UK's major concerts halls, including concertoappearances at Royal Festival Hall in London and Symphony Hall in Birmingham,frequent recitals at Wigmore Hall since his debut there in 1998, and has appeared aschamber musician at Kings Place and Cadogan Hall in London, Bridgewater Hall inManchester, and Usher Hall in Edinburgh.

    He is a member of Dimension Piano Trio recipients of the prestigious Parkhouse Award whose 2014 CD Fantasy Trios was praised in The Sunday Times for playing of rarerichness and depth. His duo partners have also included clarinettist Emma Johnson,cellist Thomas Carroll, and two pianos/four hands with eminent pianist Martin Roscoe.

    Anthony has recorded for Decca, Naxos, Champs Hill Records and Divine Art Records forwhom he added to the catalogue the first coupling of the Liszt and Reubke PianoSonatas, a disc which was praised in International Record Review as magisterial, andreceived a Gramophone recommendation. He has made several recordings with violistSarah-Jane Bradley and Gramophone described the duos recording of a disc of music byBritish composer Peter Fribbins as superb.

    Anthony trained at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Simon Nicholls and Seta Tanyel,and was accepted at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia as a student of LeonFleisher and Claude Frank at the age of 17.

    He enjoys a diverse musical life as piano tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire, as wellas festival director; in 2003 Anthony founded the Ulverston International Music Festival

  • the Symbolists who preached that art, particularly music, presented a potentialgateway to a higher reality believed would instigate a happening when actuallyperformed. The even more individual world of Poem of Ecstasy is explored extensivelyin Scriabins next clutch of opuses (Opp.4856). Rather than suffering the formertorments of composing, Scriabin now felt bliss as he experienced his own mastery: Iam God, he wrote in a personal notebook.

    After years shuttling between Europe and the United States, Scriabin and Tatyanafinally returned to Russia for good in 1910. Pale, delicate in health and paranoidabout infection, Scriabin nonetheless believed he was destined to save the worldthrough his music. While he performed his earlier, more conventional piano works inpublic, he worked at his would-be magnum opus Mysterium (never completed), andcomposed his last, genuinely mysterious piano works including his last two sets ofPreludes, Opp.67 and 74.
