Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the BSW Field Education program, including: outreach to community agencies and organizations, interviewing students and providing referrals to potential placements, confirming practicum opportunities, facilitating field orientations for students and agency personnel, and managing issues of concern related to students’ placements. Provided graduate students with foundational knowledge about the Systems of Care framework including its history and purpose, values and principles, and myriad other issues and aspects related to the provision of youth mental health services.

Adjunct Faculty Instructor, University of Alaska Anchorage, School of Social Work, August 2011-December 2011. Co-taught a 200-level undergraduate elective titled “Childhood Trauma and Systems of Care” during the Fall 2011 semester. Informed students about how various types of trauma may affect children and their physical and psychosocial development, attachment, behavior, and mental health. Addressed trauma-focused interventions and best treatment practices and also provided an introduction to the System of Care philosophy and framework. Co-taught a 400-level interdisciplinary elective titled “Children’s Mental Health and Systems of Care” during the Spring 2010 semester. Clinician, Anchorage Community Mental Health Services, May 2007- January 2013. As a clinician in the Family Services unit, provided services at the community mental health center as well as on-site at Covenant House of Alaska. Responsibilities included conducting intake assessments, developing treatment plans, coordinating and consulting with caregivers and interdisciplinary team members, and facilitating individual and family therapy for a caseload of up to thirty at-risk youth aged 3-21. Other aspects of this position included supervising clinicians for licensure and providing clinical supervision to master-level students.

Clinical Practicum, Anchorage Community Mental Health Services, August 2006-May 2007. Gained knowledge and experience in the role of clinician in the Family Services unit of a community mental health agency. Responsible for all aspects of a small caseload, including: performing intake and functional assessments, developing treatment plans, coordinating with caregivers and interagency personnel, and meeting weekly with preadolescent clients for individual therapy. Integrated aspects of trauma-focused frameworks into client treatment. Also conducted intake screenings and assisted with the development of a comprehensive client assessment tool. Clinical Practicum, Volunteers of America, Alaska, August 2005-May 2006. Experience gained in the roles of counselor and clinician in both intensive outpatient and residential adolescent substance abuse treatment programs. Co-facilitated process groups and psychoeducational groups. Met individually with clients and used motivational interviewing techniques and empathic and reflective listening skills to support treatment. Wrote DAP-form progress notes for clients in groups and individual sessions. Attended clinical staff meetings with interdisciplinary treatment teams. Youth Advocate, Volunteers of America, Utah, February 2004 -July 2005. Involved in all daily aspects of a non-profit homeless youth drop-in/resource center in Salt Lake City. Making the Connection: Treating Soldiers and Families with Compassion, September 3, 2013. Attended a one-day conference co-sponsored by the UAA School of Social Work intended to educate behavioral health providers about issues related to service members and their families in order to ensure the provision of supportive, informed treatment services.
