Years of construction, though, is just a fraction of Doty’s concerns. He’s also worried about several issues that come with construction work in the area. Road maintenance and safety raise the most questions. “It’s going to effect the roads as far as the number of trucks and WASTEWATER from page one construction vehicles that are going to be up and down that road in that community,” he said. You have the roads, you have the schools, and of course you increase the size of the wastewater facility, (but) you also increase the amount of trucks that have to haul (waste) away. “Who’s going to maintain those city roads and what’s the cost going to be over the long term? Aledo as a whole should be concerned.” The thick smells of waste com- ing from the facility is also a large concern Doty presented to the city. Even though he owns a home near the facility, he can’t stand to live near the wastewater treatment plant. The stench of waste, Doty said, has filled the air in recent years. It has become unbearable and in some instances the smell has been sucked in by air condi- tioners during summer months. “Now they seem to be putting a lot of attention to that,” Doty said. Odor control is also in the reno- vation plans due to regulations that have since been passed since the wastewater treatment plant was built in the 1980s. Freese and Nichols Inc. is the engineering company behind the project, and as plans move forward, Doty wants to “wait for the direction of the (Aledo) city council” until he comments further.

Moving on! Stuard Elementary School principal Robin Seay, assistant principal Wes Corzine resign respective postsBy Tony EierdamThe Community News

Aledo ISD is advertising posi-tions open at Stuard Elementary School for principal and assistant principal after principal Robin Seay and assistant principal Wes Corzine each resigned their respective posi-tions last month.

Seay worked in the district for nine years, eight as principal at Stuard. Corzine was in his sixth year in the district and second at Stuard.

The district is seeking a principal and prefers at least three years of experience at the position. No expe-rience is required for the assistant principal position.

“They have resigned to seek other opportunities,” Aledo ISD superin-tendent Don Daniel said. “They each wanted to pursue other opportunities that they may be afforded in educa-tion or education-related fi elds.

“Both served the district well, and they had the best interests of the children at heart. They both did good jobs for us.”

Daniel said he would be looking for candidates who possess the same qualities as the former principal. He added the district would fi rst turn its attention to hiring a principal before hiring an assistant principal.

Deputy superintendent Marsha Miholovich for Instruction and Executive Director for Administration Dan Manning are currently setting up interviews. Daniel will interview the fi nalists before making a recommendation to the board of trustees.

“We are looking for someone with experience and someone who

brings energy and continued aca-demic and leadership focus to the school,” Daniel said. “We didn’t put a criteria on the assistant principal position, and you can get good assis-tant principals coming out of the classroom.

“We need to hire the principal fi rst. The assistant principal will be the right hand of the principal. We will hire the principal fi rst, and let the principal do the screening for assistant principal to refer candi-dates.

“We (school administration) will do the fi nal screening. Our recom-

mendation will go to the school board, and hopefully in June so they we have the new principal on board as soon as possible to get ready for the next school year. We have until maybe July to fi nd an assistant prin-cipal.”

Daniel said it is easy to promote any school in Aledo ISD to prospec-tive employees.

“I will tell them Stuard in an exemplary campus with high achiev-ing students, a solid, experienced faculty and good community sup-port,” he said. “But I could say that about all of our elementary schools.”
