ALDINGA BAY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATIONDear Reader,
Developments:ABRA has been actively involved in several developmentapplication consultative processes in the last two months.
ALDI Supermarket, 4 shops and 111 car parks - facing Port Road
at Aldinga Village.I met with other representatives of the Southern CommunityCoalition on August 21st. Considerable effort has been put into thedesign of this complex by the developers, to make it appropriateand suitable for the Historic Township zone it is being proposedfor. The basic supermarket outline has been altered to a low 8mhigh building height with pitched, hipped colorbond roof includingfeature gables and verandah detailing. The overall size is smallerthan both Coles and Drakes.Generally the meeting participants felt the design etc was well prepared and appropriate for that location. All of us at the meeting were concerned, however, about the trafficimpacts. Traffic studies done as part of the development
application were purely on traffic expected to be generated by thatsite with its two driveways. They did not take into account the fiveadditional driveways entering that section of Port Road from thenew On The Run development opposite.Traffic studies also referred to the pm peak and not the am peak, when traffic will be trying to enter South Road not come into PortRoad from it.ABRA, as for other SCC groups, responded objecting to the proposal in its current form due to traffic and access problems. Our submission also recommended a study be done on traffic predictions taking into account both the supermarket complex andOn The Run influences as well as increasing traffic developingfrom further developments in the area. (The area behind the
Aldinga sporting / Galilee complexes is also designated for futurehousing.)
Aldinga District Centre.ABRA put in a submission supporting the proposal generally andrecommending that an art / performing arts centre be incorporatedinto the design, possibly using the planned Rec Centre extensionwhich is already being catered for in its design.Since that submission, at a recent October 12 th Aldinga-Sellicks Alliance meeting it came to light that there is a proposal or
concept being looked at to incorporate such a facility in the newYouth Centre being proposed for the District Centre development.
Old Coach Road upgrade.

After committee discussion we supported this proposal providedthe final speed limit for that section is not reduced.
I also attended Aldinga-Sellicks Alliance meetings on Aug 24th aswell as Oct 12th mentioned above. A proposal is being lookedinto to establish an interactive website with search engine tofacilitate people being able to quickly locate services and businesses located in the Aldinga Bay catchment area. Existingfacilities such as the Council Directory are too comprehensive
and not localised. Aldinga On Display 2016 planning forFebruary next year is continuing.
The blessing and official opening of Fred’s Van at the Aldinga
Community Centre was held on 28th September. This volunteerservice is currently providing around 50 hot meals for familiesand individuals in need. People involved report an alarminglyhigh number of those include children. In conjunction with OzHarvest and Christian Care and Support, this need is beingcatered for as well as we can with reduced Federal Governmentsupport. We appreciate the businesses, local and otherwise whocontribute to this service.
I hope you enjoy the issue.

KAHA
A scientist finds God - unscientifically!
Born and raised in Georgia (next to Russia), Kaha became a Bio-physycist; worked in a Georgian nuclearreactor; in Adelaide did post graduate studies in computer programming, where he also earned a Phd. in Oceanogra- phy and later fully qualified as a solicitor specialising inMigration Law.
Now all that is to put the lie to the idea that science andfaith don't mix, and that belief in a Creator is tooimpractical for an intelligent person.
But Kaha wants to go further than that: and say thatalthough he had long wanted to write a book about howscience proves/demonstrates creation, that wasn't theissue. The Bible says even the demons believe Godexists; but they tremble! Plain belief and even church lifedon't qualify. We have to know God personally (that'swhat a Christian is - someone who has had an encounterwith Christ's reality, and is forever changed).
Despite a Georgian Orthodox background his search forGod took him into studies of many paths and religions.
Then, in 2003 as he was simply walking between rooms,'in a second' he realised he was separated from God andhe suddenly, 'deeply regretted his life'.Circumstances changed and began to lead him intochurch life in Adelaide where his lights were turned fullyon. Eureka! Science discovers God!
Kaha says, although this might sound incompatible with ascientific mind, there are many physicists who are true believers in Christ (and not just church goers).
His busy Adelaide legal practice is motivated by a deep
desire to be of help to people who might really sufferwithout it. Mercy in Justice.
Try this prayer:
I don't believe in you Jesus but I need your help!

One of our cadets from Aldinga beach CFS,Tye Charlton was selected to attend the AustralianCadet championships in NSW over the school holidays.Tye was selected from a large group of potential candidates, to travel to NSWas part of the South Australian Cadet team. It is a credit to his skill and dedicationto training that he was selected from such a large group.Congratulations Tye!Tye has written about his experience at the championships below:
"A couple of weeks ago now, I received an email from the CFS headquarters in Adelaide, say-ing that I had been selected as part of the South Australian team to compete in the 2015 Australian fire Cadet Champion-ships in New South Wales. 26 teams competed this year in the championships, from Tasmania, NSW, Victoria, WesternAustralia and of course two teams from South Australia. All 12 of us SA cadets meet on Sunday the 27th of Septem- ber at Adelaide Shores resort and got to know who was in our team. In was in ALPHA with 5 others (2 from Naracoorte,1 from Morphett vale, 1 from Napperby and 1 from Morgan). So it was safe to say we were all complete strangers to each other and were about to fly to Sydney. We flew to Sydneyon Monday to compete against the other 24 teams. 20 of these teams had known and been training with each other for 2years or more (NSW RFS). when we landed in Sydney we caught a bus to Myuna Bay Sport and Recreation Centre, about 100km South of Sydney. Tuesday was the first day of gruelling competition and 6 of our biggest events greeted usthat day. Wednesday was our last day of competition, which included our best event result of 6th overall in the rake hoedrill. When we all landed home on Thursday the 1st of October we were all tired and worn out from competition, butwere also sad that is had come to an end so quickly. In the week since we have contacted each other on Facebook and now talk regularly. Lastly I would like to thank all ofthe crew from Aldinga Beach CFS Brigade for their teaching over the last 5 years and also SA Water for sponsoring both Alpha and Bravo SA CFS teams. We were the only non-self funded teams in the championships this year. I would like to add that if any cadets from ei-ther SES or CFS get the chance to compete in any competition, whether national, state or regional, you will never forgetthe special time you had during the competition."

SISTERS CELEBRATE
With an aim to “Fill the Hopgood” no one was moresurprised than the members of Sisters of Abundance Choirwhen they performed to a sold out house with their 10th Anniversary Concert – “Sing it Again, Sista!” at HopgoodTheatre on Sunday 11th October.Members worked hard to promote the concert and it all paidoff when tickets for the 492 seat theatre started selling likehot cakes.
The concert told the story of the choir through the songsand introductions by choir members and a brief slide showfeaturing photos of each year. Among the many songsfeatured were Rhythm of Life, I Say a Little Prayer, For theBeauty of the Earth, Bohemian Rhapsody, Africa and I willSurvive.Concert attendees gave the ladies a standing ovation at theconclusion of the concert and went away still taping feetand minds buzzing to the wonderful tunes they hadexperienced. Audience members included a number offormer choir members who were thrilled to witness how farthe choir has come along.
Part proceeds from the concert will be given to “Seeds ofAffinity Pathways for Women Inc” who assist women inthe community, who have lived prison experience, to havethe chance of a successful life.Members of the public can get another chance to see Sistersof Abundance in action at 3pm on Sunday 8th November atthe Cumberland Park Community Centre when they willSing it Again, Sista! and be performing many of the songsfrom their concert.
