The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM analyzes network data and produces a series of reports suitable for network

engineering purposes.

The rapid growth of the Internet hasresulted in concurrent growth in net -works that is difficult to predict andtherefore difficult to plan. This networkgrowth, together with a fiercely com -petitive environment and a high demandfor new services, has left networkengineers struggling to make soundand cost-effective decisions aboutnetwork deployment.

The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Analysis andInventory Module (AIM) is a networkanalysis tool that allows for networkcontrol. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIManalyzes network data and produces a series of reports suitable for networkengineering purposes.

The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM is theonly tool available that can gather and analyze information directly at the node level from the Alcatel-Lucent5620 Network Manager (NM). TheAlcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM providesinformation about the contents of net -works and databases in a clear, graphicalformat. The 5620 AIM carrier-class datawarehouse provides more informationthan any other reporting tool.

Data Warehouse Before reports can be viewed networkdata must be imported into the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM data warehouse. TheAlcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM will acceptreal-time data from the Alcatel-Lucent5620 NM database, and the Alcatel-Lucent Statistics Collector. For someproducts, additional information whichis not available in the Alcatel-Lucent5620 NM database is obtained directlyfrom the nodes. Historical data isretained in the database, allowingtrend analysis in network inventoryand performance.

Analysis Reports There are over 150 standard reports fromwhich to choose. Network engi neerscan also easily create ad-hoc reports or customize standard reports to betteraddress their particular needs. All reportscan be converted to Microsoft Word,Microsoft Excel, text (txt) or portabledocument format (PDF) for importinginto documents, and to HTML forpublishing on the Internet.

Inventory and Configuration Queries A complete network inventory isvaluable information for the networkengineer. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIMallows quick and easy inventory reportsto be run on the whole network or juston the part of it, providing more inven -tory information than is available inthe standard Alcatel-Lucent 5620 NMdatabase. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIMalso has the ability to report informa -tion about connections (paths) and over -lay links. Reports cover all importantaspects — from details about equipmentconfiguration to status of individualcircuits. Improperly configured cardscan easily be detected and identified.

Utilization Queries As the demands on the networkincrease, customers need to maximizetechnology investments. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM can be used to identifyand pinpoint cards, ports, trunks, paths,or overlay links that are underutilized.

Alarm Analysis In highly complex network environ -ments, alarms are a regular occurrence. With the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM, alarmtrends can be analyzed by time and/orspecific equipment and this informationcan be used to take corrective action in the network.

Graphical Topology Analysis Proper network and node synchro niza -tion and control packet switching system(CPSS) design is required for a networkto perform efficiently. This design is dif -ficult to achieve without appropriatetools. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIMaddresses these areas with its advancedtopology analysis capabil ities. Thesecapabilities allow interactive explorationand analysis of the synchro nization andCPSS design of the network.

Performance Analysis The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 AIM measuresnetwork performance using statisticscol lected from the Alcatel-LucentStatistics Collector and availability andstatus events obtained directly fromthe 5620 NM. With the Alcatel-Lucent5620 AIM, today’s network performancecan be compared with the previous day’s,week’s or month’s performance to helpmaximize the network’s quality andeffectiveness.
