These tests can be very daunting for students and I am always extremely proud of the efforts our students display when tackling them. I am always so impressed to walk into the testing room to observe the maturity displayed by our students during these times. Whilst these tests are important and provide both parents and the school with an assessment of student achievement, they are only a small part of assessing the development and growth of a child. Thank you to families for ensuring your child was here and on time during the week. NAPLAN results will be sent out to families later on in the year. Zone Cross Country Best of luck also to our students who are representing our school at the Zone Cross Country Carnival which will be held tomorrow. Fingers crossed for good weather and great results. Albury West has the responsibility of running the Albury Zone Cross Country Carnival tomorrow. As such, we need as many helpers as possible. Helpers will be needed with the setting up and laying out of the track as well as being available around the track during the age races. The P&C will also need your support in helping with the canteen, which will be run on the day at the venue. This will involve cooking of a BBQ, selling toasted sandwiches and cold drinks at the venue. They will also need support in making salad rolls at the school prior to the carnival. If you can assist on the day can you please meet Mr Beattie at the Equestrian Centre. Zone Athletics Well done to the many students who were successful in making it to the zone athletics carnival that was held recently. Congratulations to them for their enthusiasm, participation and excellent behaviour throughout a very cold day. Congratulations to Harrison Miller for making it into the Albury Athletics team – they will now compete at the Riverina carnival which will be held in September. Reports Our school reports a summary of your child’s progress with written reports twice a year – once in Term 2 and then again in Term 4. All teachers are currently very busy writing and reviewing Semester 1 student

Term 2 Week 4 24/5/2018

NAPLAN I would like to make a very special mention this week to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who completed the NAPLAN testing in Language Conventions, Writing, Reading and Numeracy.

Helpers will be needed with the setting up and laying out of the track as well as being available around the track during the age races.

reports. These reports reflect the academic and social progress your child has made during the first two terms.

In the coming weeks your child’s report will be sent home. Further ongoing information is provided to families during interview times when the Personalised Learning Plans are written in Term 1 and reviewed in Term 3. West Albury Preschool and Good Start Early Learning Centre Visits Our K-2 classrooms will be a hive of activity over the coming weeks with visits from preschoolers from the West Albury Preschool and the Good Start Early Learning Centre. Preschoolers and their teachers will visit our classrooms to see the wonderful Language, Learning and Literacy program in action. I am certain our visitors will be impressed by the intensity of small group learning and the independent work skills, displayed by our students. Great Aussie Holiday Park A reminder that the next instalment for the year 3/4 excursion to Melbourne is due next week. The amount due is $20. Canberra A reminder that the next instalment for the year 5/6 excursion to Canberra is due next week. The amount due is $80. Paul Kelly Cup Our senior students had a great day out last week participating in the Paul Kelly Cup. Once again our students did us proud as they represented our school with pride and enthusiasm. The students certainly enjoyed the opportunity to develop their AFL skills during the day and became more competitive as the day wore on winning 3 of the 3 games they played. A special thank you is extended to Mr Beattie for all of his organisation and training of the students.

Paul Kelly Cup Albury West students entered the annual Paul Kelly Cup and enjoyed a most successful day. We entered a mixed team of girls and boys in the mixed competition and won all three games that we played. Goals throughout the day were scored by Thomas Stevens, Harrison Miller, Billy Taylor, Campbell Deas, Mav Parker, Trae Toumnageun and Charlie Banks. Carlos Lovatt, Tyrone Ingram and Allirah Whybrow were most effective in attack and defence. Kobie Maher, Taylah-Rose Sharp, Callum Hillier and Michael Wuksta also played strongly. The students were outstanding ambassadors for our school and all displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.
