Albertus Magnus is a college with a clearly-defined purpose: to serve a close-knit community of learners as they confront the intellectual, ethical and spiritual challenges of the 21st century.
Our size supports and strengthens what we do and how we do it. We believe that true learning takes place in a setting that values the individual, while he or she works hard to find his or her role here on campus, in the greater community and in the world.
We are a Catholic college in the DOMINICAN
TRADITION. We hold fast to SCHOLARSHIP,
to CRITICAL THINKING, and to VIGOROUS
DISCUSSION and DEBATE. We welcome students of all
faiths and world views, and invite them to share our deep
conviction that learning is, first and foremost, a search for
truth in all its forms and dimensions.
Sincerely,
Dr. JULIA M. McNAMARAPRESIDENT OF ALBERTUS MAGNUS COLLEGE

So why did we name a vibrant, forward-thinking college after someone who taught nearly eight hundred years ago? Because he was amazing. And he would have fit right in.
He believed in knowledge and its transformative power. He dedicated his life to the idea that science and religion could exist peacefully side by side. Today, that idea still sparks lively debate, just as it did in the 13th century. The foundation of academia as we know it started then.
He was the Dominican bishop, scholar, and humanist Albertus Magnus, or Albert the Great. Considered by many to be the greatest theologian and philosopher of medieval Germany, his writings filled thirty-eight volumes, and ranged in subject matter from astronomy to zoology.
As both a learner and a teacher, he was systematic, disciplined, logical, and tireless. Our College is proud to trace its roots back to the tradition of devoted study and scholarship that he embodied.
