possible causes of and solutions to the formation of ice gorges along the Hudson River, which

and became an economist, lawyer, and “a practical business man of the widest experience”. He

establishment of a permanent historical museum in the city. The pageant portrayed the history of

Albany in ten acts and was performed by leading citizens and their families. Letters and other

business correspondence are largely attributed to George Douglas Miller, of the Albany Historical

Description: A colorful collection of trade cards, post cards, and greeting card covers. Most

clothing, and stationery products. The book appears to have belonged to a Mrs. Williamson of

Description: A scrapbook in poor conditions which contains mainly newspaper columns of

Description: Mr. Parsons was cofounder of Weed Parsons and Co., an Albany printing

company. The scrapbook’s 369 hand numbered pages consist of news paper clippings about the

printing and publishing industries, stories and poems, and local news items. Parsons adds his

There is an outline of Macedonian history followed by a chart of Albany’s St. Agnes Cemetery,

demonstrating the difficulty in connecting the contents.

mustered into the National Guard 25 years ago. There are many news clippings about the

military court trial of Captain Louis Wendel of the First Battery, NGNY, Troy. Brigadier General

Lloyd served on the court.

Subject/Title: Spanish War Scraps Dates April-June 1898

Description: This book contains newspaper clippings detailing the President’s call for volunteers

during the Spanish America war. He requests that the quota be made up mainly from the

National Guard and the National Guard of New York State is then organized into regiments.

Most of the articles are concerned with the activities of Co. D, Troy and the movement of its

troops between camps: Camp Black, NY; Chickamanga, GA; and Tampa ,FL. There is also

news of other regiments and war battles. Most of the clippings are from the Troy Daily Press

and the Troy Daily Times and include stories about the mobilization and movement of the NYS

National Guard and local stories about the soldiers themselves.

current events of the time, mainly political, and most are from the Troy, NY papers. There is

much about James H. Lloyd, the Troy photographer, and James Lloyd of the National Guard who

was also nominated to be sheriff of Rensselaer County, they are apparently the same person.

Description: Letters of recommendation written for both Mary Willard Vine and Edward

(Eduord) Buyck to government agencies to advance their employment during WWI, most from

The Watervliet Arsenal where both had worked. Mr. Buyck was and accomplished artist and

Mary Willard Vine a respected landscape architect and interior decorator. There are also letters

written during WWII (ie. from Herbert Lehman) in regard to the Buyck’s interests in Foreign

Relief. Mrs. Buyck is recommended for other positions such as an educator in the adult education

department of the New York State Education Department. She is highly recommended for many

professional positions and complimented by various government and industrial executives.

Included in this collection are: personal and hand written letters, many management books, New

York State Historical Association booklets, news clippings about activities of both Mr. and Mrs.

Eduord Buyck.

state supervisor of the New York State art project. The articles also describe the Slingerlands

home she and her husband lived in, Highfield Hall. There are announcements of Albany events in

which she and her husband participated and letters describing her professional activities such as

her involvement in city planning. Also included are personal letters, programs of club women

meetings, a letter of recommendation from Mr. Herbert Lehman to Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt

regarding Mr. Buyck and his need for employment, clippings about her job with the home

planning institute of the City and County Savings Bank, invitations to speak at area colleges and

organizations, and Albany city planning board notes. There is a newspaper photo of Mrs. Buyck

and an article about her marriage to a Dr. Freund after the death of Mr. Buyck.

honorable discharge from the army in 1919, a letter of thanks from President Roosevelt for his

Buyck portrait which now hangs at the Roosevelt Library at Hyde Park, NY, and much historical

information and news clippings about his painting of the first raising of the Stars and Stripes at

Fort Stanwix near Rome NY. Highfield Hall is described with news articles and photos.

Description: This second scrapbook has many news and print photos of Mr. and Mrs. Buyck

taken during their lifetimes. At the beginning of the book is an old photo or print of Bruges,

Belgium and a few WWI army photos. There is much descriptive material about the early lives

of Mr. and Mrs. Buyck in upstate NY where they had a fox farm and of their later lives at

Highfield Hall. Included are biographical notes , written profiles, and news clippings about Mr.

Buyck. There are a few personal papers and letters, one of the latter by Ledyard Cogswell Sr.

inviting him to serve as judge for the selection of WPA artists.
