    The VisionAlbany in 2030 has built on

    its history and diversenatural, cultural,institutional, and humanresources to become aglobal model forsustainable revitalization

    and urban livability. Thecity promotes a balancedapproach to economicopportunity, social equity,and environmental quality

    that is locally driven,encourages citizeninvolvement andinvestment, and benefitsall residents.

    The Components1. Safe, Livable Neighborhoods

    Every neighborhood in Albany is a desirable place tolive because of its walkable streets, historicarchitecture, range of housing choices, mixed-useneighborhood centers, quality schools, parks andrecreation facilities, and easy access to DowntownAlbany and other job centers.

    2. Model Educational SystemAlbany nurtures its most valuable resources, itschildren, by promoting excellence in education at alllevels. The Citys institutions of higher educationare valued resources and partners in initiatives toexpand economic opportunities, enhance work forceskills, and promote lifelong learning.

    3. Vibrant Urban Center

    As the capital of New York and a destination forwork, play, and tourism, Albany is the regionsprimary center of government, education, healthcare, employment, and the arts. Downtown Albanyis a vibrant mix of business, residential, educational,cultural, and entertainment uses connected to theHudson River waterfront.

    4. Multi-Modal Transportation HubAlbanys neighborhoods and centers are connectedto each other and to the rest of the region by anextensive, efficient, and safe network of complete

    streets, mass transit, bikeways, trails, andsidewalks.5. Green City
