Cargo Facilities: Loaded 14,000 tonnes of cement in 50 kg. bags from rail and road trucks. 3 shift system. Used both shore cranes and ship’s derricks. As cargo comes from cement factory in interior by rail, presentation is very intermittent, and vessel rarely informed of working prospects more than a few hours in advance. Sundays are normally holidays. Loading rate averaged 1,000 tons approx. per working day but ranged from 200 tons to 1,700 tons, depending on labour and cargo availability. Formalities: ETA’s required 5 days and 2 days in advance, also include length, tonnage, flag, state of health, etc. Documents required: 6 Crew Lists, 2 Lists of Foreign Currency, 2 Personal Effects Lists, 1 Health Declaration, 3 Stores Lists.
