ABOUT NAWIC
The National Association of Women in Construction is an organization with a diverse membership and more than
150 chapters across the United States. NAWIC’s core purpose is to enhance the success of women in the construc-
tion industry. It has grown worldwide and has international affiliates in many countries such as Canada, Australia,
New Zealand, United Kingdom and South Africa.
The Alaska Chapter offers opportunities for education, networking, mentoring, leadership as well as industry and
community involvement.

t is already August. School is right around the corner. My son will be a freshman this year at West High School. I just can’t believe
how fast time flies by.
Construction is going non-stop. There are a lot of road project going on. Please be extra aware in construction zone. We want eve-
ryone to make it home safe.
AMEC (NAWIC’s annual convention) is August 17-20 in California. We have 3 confirmed members going.
Tamie Taylor the incoming Alaska Chapter President is planning a retreat soon. There will be more information to follow.
We are working on some study groups for the education programs that NAWIC offers. Tamie is working on a schedule for that. The
first program will be the Construction Bookkeeping. If you are interested please contact myself or Tamie

An Introduction to Building Automation Systems
Can you really make a Building Smarter? Absolutely!
With Intelligent Building Automation Systems, you can
keep occupants comfortable, manage energy conserva-
tion measures, identify key operational problems and an-
alyze the results.
During the presentation, we will review some key con-
cepts including:
Understanding the basic concept of a building automation system (BAS)
Understanding the value of both conservation and occupant comfort/safety
Understanding the basic concepts of controlling equipment versus systems
Understanding the value of data and data visualization
Understanding the basic concepts of analytics as they pertain to today’s BAS and buildings

About the Presenter:
Jessi Cherry, Sales Manager with Meridian Systems, Inc., has been with her firm for 12
years. Jessi leads MSI’s sales team and is an integral part of the firm’s leadership. Jessi
has been involved in many local professional organizations. She is Past President of
the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE) and served on the board for 5 years; she served on the board of the of Na-
tional Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) for 2 years; she was on the
Membership Committee for the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) in
2014; and she is a member of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA)
and most importantly, NAWIC.
